So long story short I was in a bit of an accident in my 05 liberty and bent the front bumper reinforcement. I'm looking at replacing it but it looks like its welded to the frame? Is this really the case? Thanks in advance for any help.

The metal part? Yes it is "welded to the frame"

I had an impact with a guard rail that caused incidental damage to this piece, but enough to justify replacing rather than repairing. A body shop would call it the "bumper" and most vehicles do have them bolted on. The KJ has through-welds on several surfaces (perpedicular planes). Something like 10-12 small welds in all. It's not a huge amount of work, but there's a lot to take off before you can work on it and it needs to be repainted properly afterwards.

Ok. I'm thinking about heating it up and bending it back the best I can. I only had liability insurance on it so consequently I'm having to fix it out of pocket.

comealong a torch and a ballpeen hammer, if the metal starts tearing before its anywhere near back in position consider cutting the offending section out, working it back on an anvil / vice then stitch welding it back on with strips and coins, you want it structural for attachment of fender and skirts and bumper and such but doesnt matter if it becomes ugly in the process , may have to rebuild some areas where things bolt / rivet in order to get things buttoned back up but as long as the front is still square and nothing uni is tweaked you can pretty much do anything you want to do in order to get the ship righted

with some tension from a comealong in the right direction and some heat it may unfold itself fairly easy

get a picture of an undamaged vehicle in similar disassembly itll help roughing things back where they belong

Ya that's what I was thinking heating it up and using a comealong to bend it back. Did not think about cutting the bent section off and beating it back on an anvil that sounds like a good back up plan. If i get my ball joints on (had to replace a control arm and a couple ball joints) before the weekends over im gonna give it a try. Ill post some pics after and let you know how it went. Thanks for the tips!

i try to get by without cutting and rewelding, automotive stamped metal can be a pain to weld without a spot welder, it likes to blow through
