Hey guys, first post here...so be gentle as I'm still fairly new to the CRD scene.

I'm having an issue with my heat...here in NJ it just started getting below freezing a few days ago, so I started using my block heater which has helped cure my hard start issue until my new fuel/water separator gets here...but the last 2 days my temp hasn't gone up at all in my 25 minute drive to work with minimal stop and go. This has never happened before. The heat works OK when the temp is above 25 F, but below that the engine doesn't heat up at all and at best I get luke warm air on acceleration. I'm not sure if it'd be the water pump or not...I'm kind of torn because the heat works and the temp gauge goes about 1/4 of the way up above freezing temps, so I don't know if stuff is getting frozen? I also have gotten the red lightning bolt at first start up in the morning both days, but it doesn't come on at all the rest of the day. No degradation in performance, just a really cold ride to work.

If you never get up to temperature even after running for a while its likely the thermostat is stuck open. The thermostats on these CRD's are extremely low quality, I went through 4 in 100k before I got a serviceable Thermostat. The stock part is an expensive pieces of s**t.

There are a couple of solutions. One of the most common is to install an inline Stant thermostat. Its a cheap solution that will get you through the winter. do a search for inline thermostat or Stant Thermostat

Before you do that, check your coolant level first and ensure you do not have any air in the system also.

It could also be a blocked heater core (if the core in the CRD is the same as the gasser). Common issue for the 3.7, especially if you do not use HOAT coolant.

first you need to scan down to the CRD section. read the noob guide for many tips and tricks for CRD owners. Second the thermostat in your jeep is beyond done. I had the same problem when I bought mine last year. Heat guage normally reads at just under halfway on guage. I have made a replacement myself out of Ford parts. Thermostat on contour, taurus, and others in late 90's up is external. I had wrote up and posted what I did on here. Cost is under $30 for parts.
