I don't mind the stock bulbs in my lights, but I'm always looking to improve. What's everyone using for those who may have upgraded?

Many people like the Sylvania Silverstars, however I would strongly advise staying away from them. One of them lasted 6 months in my '99 Dodge Ram and the other one went a month later! For what they cost, I was quite upset!

I saw they only last 1/4 of the life of standard halogen.....that kinda stinks.

Anyone using the Hellas?

I've been running Siverstar's in my libby for over a year now. I have no complaints on their performance.

I've also got the 65w GE Nighthawks in my fogs. When my Silverstar's go I'm going to replace them with the GE's. No other reason other than Costco has them for half the price of the Silverstar's and you get very similar performance.

I had a set of Silverstars in for almost 4 years, then switched to PIAA bulbs for both sets (headlights and foglights). I like them a lot, but they're not cheap. The Silverstars were still working when I switched, but I'm sure they'd dimmed some over the 4 years.

It all depends on how much night driving you do. The more, the less time your Silverstars will last. My sister got 6 months out of hers, and I got a little over a year out of mine.

If you want a nice light, than get the Piaa extreme white bulbs. They run $100.00 for the set, but it's all you need.

So which Silverstars were you guys runnin?

I'm really leaning toward Hellas but was hoping for feedback.

Speaking of PIAA...the Super Plasmas look interesting.

Yes, and they were still working when I took them out. Quite a lot of night driving in there, plus my KJ has DRLs. But bulbs do dim somewhat after a couple of years, so I figured it was time for a swap. I agree with Sleeve, the Extreme whites have been doing a great job. It's a real clean, white light and the fog lights really blaze up the ditches. When I was shopping for them I found a huge range of prices for them, though. I finally paid $75 per pair at Cap-It, and Napa wanted over $125 for the same bulbs...

yeah im running the PIAA's also. had them in for about 2 years now. but if you're having trouble trying to see in the fog, then all you have to do is take some electrical tape and make a cross onto the headlight itself. this make the beam split into 4 beams and also flares it out a little. thats what we did when i raced. im sure you all have saw this technique before.

I use the Euro Dezigns bulbs that I mentioned in this thread: Xenon Headlights

They are much less expensive than the Silver Stars and have a much better light output than the stock bulbs. I have had them for 15 months so far and they are still burning bright.

PIAA Extreme Whites in the headlights and foglights. The Silverstars are very good, these are even better.

I had a similar problem, one then the other, less than a year.

I wrote an e-mail to Sylvania expressing my disappointment - they sent me an apology, an explanation that because they are brighter, they don't last as long, and a free replacement set :-)

Might be worth a shot!

Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like the bluish cast of them anyways. I still have the replacements in their package.

I have GE Ultra Brights in my mains and Silverstars in my fogs. I also added the Hi/Lo mod which allows your fogs to stay on with your brights. I will probably replace the Ultras with Silverstars when they go.

Could it be possible that those who had premature bulb failure was due to touching the bulb(s) when installing them. These bulbs will fail prematurely when one touches them, leaving an oil residue from their fingers.

Always a possibility. We all know how sensitive halogens are.

I picked up the Hellas. I'm going to drop them in and see what I think of the blue xenon look. I also picked up Silverstars for the fog lights. It will be interesting to see how things look with two different colors.

I definitely want to try the PIAA Super Plasmas in the future.
