Just changed my transfer case for the second time... She's on her second motor, third front diff, second rear diff, third transmission... Third full interior... And the list goes
On... But she is my tank and I love her!

It's down to such a science... My buddy and I just changed the transfer case in under 30 minutes lol! :pepper:

I'm gonna drive her till the wheels come off... Duct tape them on and just keep goin :)

She was born in November of 01 and now shares parts from poor unfortunate kjs from Alaska to california, Florida to Texas and more!

That is the way to do it! I have about 1/3 of your miles but I think along the same lines as you do. At 64 years young this Jeep and I will both go down together!

The fact that you have a laundry list of engines, trannys, tcases, and axles just to hit the 300K mark proves that I was wrong about the quality of the KJ all along. They really are not higher quality than the Jeeps before them afterall.

I've heard of a hundred of these things that have spit out valve springs before 150K... but this is just nuts. You could have bought two more vehicles with the money you've put into keeping that KJ going.

This is what you call true love.

EVERYTHING that broke prematurely was solely my fault and not that of the kj. She is a tank!!! I went water fording up to my headlights in VT. ran the rest of the trail just fine... 25 miles from ny... Boom motor goes (well worth it) 700 for a new motor. Blew my tranny driving 110 mph for 20 straight minutes trying to get home from upstate in an emergency... 300 bux... Blew my rear and TC on a trail PUTTING MY CAR IN 4wd while on two wheels and gunning it (8 years ago immaturity at it's best) 500 bux, and so on and so forth. I've had a pathfinder armada blow a stop sign Clip me in the front and spin me around 3 times ending with their car having no passenger wheel... and drove home losing just a fender flare. I hit a mercedes Benz ml55 amg goin about 40 mph putting the back door in the backseat... And drove home with some scratches... Once again so on and so forth. I've been sideswiped rear ended etc... And I get to drive home EVERY single time! When my rims and rockrails get rusty... I spray paint them :) driving this jeep has been the greatest driving experience thus far. I had a luxury car, a sport compact, and a full blOwn drag racing car (that I owe my Libby to! Only bought it to tow my drag car up and down the eAst coast) and NONE of them come close :)

For the 3 grand or so in replacement parts over a 10 year span ( I do all of my own labor)
It's so not worth buying a néw car. She is still just a gorgeous vehicle that is complemented on; on an everyday basis...

Good going...

We just had the OE 3.7 replaced after dropping a valve seat and sending the valve on to the piston... OUCH!! Only had 128K miles on it. Now has a new Jasper engine w/100K mile replacement warranty and back on the road. Looking for at least another 100K miles on her.

Sorry but you really have no reason to still say 300,000 and still ticking bc from what you are saying she stopped ticking along time ago. What all you have done to this one you could of picked another one up many many miles ago.

I can say 3000000 and still ticking because she is still in one piece unibody and body wise... None of my mods have failed... And she has been through he'll and back with me driving off and on the road in the last ten years. I bought her when I was 22! Imagine the torment that she has put up with. The original motor almost made it to 200000 before blowing up after I went water fording up to my headlights... That's More than 5 years ago... I got her late November /early december of 01 and she was in the first batch of liberties that the dealer ever received. Neither my dealer(family friend for 40yrs) nor I had ever seen one in person! I told him I needed a jeep to tow my drag car up and down the east coast... He said they had something new coming out... I gave him 10 grand and just picked it up once they came in. She towed it up and down the east coast on a full trailer for 3 race seasons without a hiccup. Her birthday on the door is November 01 :) since then I've spent about 3 grand in parts that I broke... Not anything that would have broken under normal driving circumstances for sure. How does 3 grand = even one new car?? I'm a mechanic at heart... So I do all of my own work.

To the OP... can you define "blown engine"? I'm curious how you're on your 3rd engine and have only spent $3K total for that. I'm not doubting... just asking. It cost us nearly $6K to get the Jasper engine installed a couple weeks back.

Thanks.

2nd engine, and I only paid 700 for the motor at the time. I do ALL of my own work in my driveway/garage with a friend or two. Www.car-part.com is my best friend... I would have to pay triple the amount from the junkyards around here...

As for the blown engine... I went water fording up to my headlights in a riverbed in VT and finished the run... Made it 50 miles or so from NY and kaboom... No vacuum pressure... I blew some sort of hole in it?

Thanks f the info. We searched f a used engine to do the swap & cheapest we could find was ~$2K+ for a 3.7 w/over 120K miles on it w No warranty. Decided on getting a new/reman installed w/a 100K mile replacement warranty instead.

158K on my '02. A blown front diff, battery, brakes F&R,tires,a shock or four, radiator "repair" and a few other small items. The only work I don't do is alignments. Think I'll see 200K on the engine but I'd like to see 300K. It's been wheeled pretty hard but street driven easy. If I wanna go fast there's motorcycles for that mess.

It'll be 10 years old in November.

He has plenty of reason to say he has 300,000 miles. Why? It's the same KJ, with the same odometer that is still counting. Your odometer has no relation to the engine or transmission.

That's like saying your engine goes at 150,000 miles, then getting it replaced. Then asking the mechanic why he didn't reset the odometer. It makes no sense as the rest of the Jeep still has 150k on it.

He says he has $3k in it. You can't buy a running KJ, any year for that price just yet. Gonna take a few more years for that! Joe, congrats on reaching 300k. I believe you are the 2nd or 3rd person that has reached that point that the Liberty community knows about. Got any pics of the odometer?
