I know this information is somewhere on this forum. Having trouble finding it though. Is there a cheaper steel front differential for a 2005 kj than JBA's solid steel front diff?

No,JBA is the only one that makes them or you can make your own if you have the tools and know how.

His price is actually cheap,a new D30A is much more then his steel D30 modded to work in a KJ.

its becoming increasingly harder to justify spending the money to the wife when discussing beefing up the kj versus buying a vehicle thats already outfitted.

Well i think i did something to the car. I wheeled it pretty hard a couple of days ago. today, i put it in gear.....pressed on the gas....and it gave a little kick as it started. did it 2 or 3 times. never noticed it before.

Why hasn't anyone make urethane bushings to replace the soft rubber diff mounts? That would seem a lot easier and cheaper than creating a steel front diff, and if the diff couldn't move all over the place under load, it might not crack as easy.

 What ?
Mounts have nothing (or very little to do) with the front diff breaking.
It happens at times just like a 30-35-44 etc breaks sometimes

My brother just bought an FJ Cruiser and as brothers do we razz each other a bit. The lack of steel diff is one of his strongholds for busting my chops. That and the FJ comes with electronic rear lockers.

Well get him back by saying the body on your KJ will not crack and rust like his fj loser does.

Oh man, I was just looking at all the rust and cracking issues. Apparently its due to rusting of frame, then flex breaks through, and boom.....body cracks or tears. I dunno if I can break this to him. He stinkin' loves that ride.

WOW....simply....WOW. I think I about had a bowel movement when I read that.

Every car that is driven offroad and through the mud is gonna rust if not properly maintained...but geez. But that's out of control! I asked him about it and he said that it was the 07-08 models. His is 2011 model so the "battle" continues.....

I love my kj, a little pissed that I'm gonna have to address the aluminum front diff at some point...but I love it nonetheless.
