Ok, what are folks using for long gun racks in their KJ? Thinking of either:
1. Vertical mount: passenger side foot area near console
2. Roof mount: in the cargo area
3. Vertical mount: in cargo area

Openly exposed guns in a vehicle sounds like a good way to arm a criminal. We dont want the type of folks who break into vehicles to be walkin around with free guns
That said, I'd either mount em right to the backside of the rear seats, and then cover the cargo area with an all j rack or one of the many homemade designs on the forum. If you did a split rack, you could still put the seats down individually when no guns are mounted. Otherwise, I'd build a box of sorts to go under the rear seats (maybe PVC pipe?). My 48" high lift jack fits under there nicely, along with a bunch of other gear, so I'd imagine a gun or two would fit as well. Careful folding the seats down without some sort of hard case or box though...

The criminal deal does make sense if you live in that kind of area. If I had a gun rack I wouldnt drive in the city with it loaded up. But around where I grew up? Wouldnt think twice...if MD wasnt so darn up tight about firearms...

Well, don't you want to open your present?
If it's a severed head, I'm going to be very upset.
Open it.
What is it?
It's a gun rack.
A gun rack... a gun rack. I don't even own *a* gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do with a gun rack?
You don't like it? Fine. You know Wayne, if you're not careful, you're going to lose me.
I lost you two months ago. We broke up. Are you mental? Get the net!

Roof mount in the cargo area sounds like a winner, like this:
http://www.fleetsafety.com/Big-Sky-Rack ... -Rack-1444

They also have locking ones for those concerned with security:
http://www.fleetsafety.com/Big-Sky-Rack ... -Rack-1438

I've never dealt with this company, I was just Google searching.

First check your local laws on how to properly carry a gun in a personal vehicle. I saw that you lived in California, so I would guess they have strict gun laws. Here in Kentucky, where I live, not so much. One can have a gun rack in their vehicle.

Man i miss kentucky. Its the way out western maryland with better laws. I felt like i was out in the area of maryland i grew up in when I was there. Sadly yall are too far from the shore for my tastes. :(

Surprisingly, Washington State is one of the last open carry states. We can actually walk around with open weapons. The whackjobs that don't think are trying to change this of course. Even Starbucks has been petitioned to make it illigal to get a cup of coffee if you have a handgun. They make small minds nervous.

ohio also allows open carry and gun racks, however if doing either the police give you a hard time about it. threaten you with "cuasing panic" charges. bs if you ask me...if its not illegal leave me alone. concealed carry permit is the way to go, nobody even knows its there to know to bother you. i like the pic above of a door mounted shotgun scabbard, i usually just wedge mine between the seat and middle console to keep it from moving.

I'll make something for the rear door for a long gun and need to find a locking setup up front for a small handgun. I'll post pics once I figure it out. I'm very in tune with local laws, its just the educating local law enforcement about those laws that is tiresome but part of the challenge. Not enough folks carrying guns, I need to do my part.

Ya, that's wicked!
Clint, or anyone else... if you're looking for good storage, get a couple 100 cartridge, 50 cal. Metal ammo cans from a military surplus store. You can fit one under each front seat- lay them on their sides and put the locking mechanism to the back so you can use that as a handle to pull em out (from the back). You can also wedge a 200 cartridge, 7.62mm ammo can on it's side under the middle back seat, with the handle facing the front for easy removal.

Only 7 states in the Union don't allow open carry:

TX
OK
AR
IL
NY
SC
FL

WA is an open carry state but not among the "gold star" open carry states

AZ
NM
NV
ID
WY
MT
SD
VT
KY
WV
NC
AK

Just sayin'

Lots of things have changed in all of those states over the years.I know for one more so as I used to take my loaded 12g into school during pheasant season all the time, and I was not the only one,and store it my locker. Many of us would hunt early, then go to school, then off hunting right after and wanted max time hunting before the sun set so that ment no time to run home to grab the shotgun.Couldn't even think about doing that these days without seeing some major jail time and we are not talking about 30+ years ago, more like 15.

Well, restrictions may apply like taking a gun to school, private business or government buildings but it doesn't mean a state is not "gold star" as defined by opencarry.org

In UT, you can technically open carry but, if you do so, you can be subject to public disturbance charges if peeps at the mall freak out. You can open carry on state or BLM land in UT no matter who freaks out however.

Your state is super-awesome for open carry.
