this is a almost end less disscustion some will say
"dont waste the time or the money on a light bar it is usless"
and other will say
"the light bar looks kool"
I say fact is fact
You use the tires on road every day and offroad every time.
I would ask my self these questions befor I bought something that is "cosmetic" over function
Do you need better tires?
Do you need a light bar?
Can you wheel your rig on OK tires?
Can you wheel with out the light bar?
Do you like to look kool?
Do you like to take a strap?
Would you rather spend the money on a locker insted?
What about skids?
What about rock rails?
What about a winch?
What about a lift?
I could think of a lot more stuff to list but I think you get the point
I am all about "what ever blows your hair back" but IMO the choices are clear

My thoughts exactly, even though I don't think it's illegal to have them uncovered... just on... and even that is a new law.

Actually they have been illegal in Virginia for many years. At least as long as I've had my driver's license and I'm 32. Any clear lamp above the level of the factory headlamps must be covered while in use on a public highway. It will actually fail you for inspection if you leave them uncovered, providing the inspection station isn't cutting corners.

I've also heard for VA that you can only have four lamps uncovered and/or on at a time.

Man, I had no idea... I don't run around with my covers off because I don't want it to fade funny... but now I know I couldn't if I wanted to.

We need to get a Virginia run together.

I drove around for over a year with the covers off without any problems. I'm sure most police officers don't even know it's illegal and/or have better things to do.

Now that I've got rock rails again, a Virginia run would be cool.

True. With a two headlamp system, like on the Liberty, we are allowed to run a set of fog-lamps with the low-beams, and a set of driving lamps with the high-beams. On a four headlamp system where the low-beams and high-beams both stay on when the high-beams are on, you can only run fog-lamps with the low-beams. Very few lamps on the market are made as true driving lamps and have the correct DOT markings to ID them as such. The ones I have found are normally projector beam lamps. In any case, the lamps must be wired into the factory lamps with relays so they come on and go off when they are supposed to according to the factory headlamp, hi-beam/low-beam switch and also must have their own dedicated switch to disable them as per factory fog-lamps. This is true to the best of my knowledge from talking to the State Trooper who does our inspection rounds.

In W,Va they couldn't sell the rennie when it frist came out because of the roof mounted lights, visiters to the state were given a pass. They have since changed it. I know everyone has thier own opinion, but to me those factory light bars look plastic and cheesey and don't do a thing for the looks of a liberty. A roof basket with a set of hella's mounted to the front of it looks alot better, then add another set to the front bumper or bull bar and it looks awesome. Plastic just doesn't look rugged, I know plastic is plenty strong, I mean looks wise.
