 Another winner from RK for the KJ. A few people already reported that you'll rip the CV boot with those, Al included.
That was based on someone's experience with these on a CRD, before RK said "not for CRD. They received awful customer service & RK said the problem was in the install... later they finally bowed out & published the "not for CRD" disclaimer. Grumpee has been running it for awhile on his gasser without problem, & I think Al's KJ still has them on board.
Yes on what he said above. Except when they bowed out, they kept my money. Makes them the crooks they are known to be by many.
Grumpee has had good results, and I had krappy results. Hence the name I use for it is "rock krapper". Al had boot damage on his gasser from these because a full extension of the a-arm, the bracket is going to touch the drivers side inner cv boot. So, the long term use of them depends on ones level of off-roading desired. If you look at the pictures of a stock clevis, you see that clearnce is obtained because the fork "tines" are a small sectional area compared to the shock mounting area. RK brackets that have a larger sectiona area in relation to the shock mount area. This is why there is boot issues on the drivers side, due to the cv joint being farther out. To make the issue worse, the brackets have a bent flange to them (so they act as a strengthening box) that turns in and can capture the ribs of the cv boots when at full droop or from a pothole. This allows the boot to rub, and after time, it is history.
Since I've got my Frankenlift II on my CRD, I can't be happier. Not to mention, talking to All J folks is nothing but joy after the rock krapper klowns.
I'll sell you the rock krapper clevis brackets if you want them, but I don't think it is the way to go. I did modify them some to eliminate most of the boot rubbing on a CRD (I cut out the inner flange on the inside of the bracket and box welded it on the outside to strengthen it, and used this one on the drivers side). One thing any clevis lift can't do is fix the crappy stock spring and shock combo, just lift it a little higher but it will still bottom out or coil bind when driving the fun roads. At least on my CRD, that has been the experiance.
Hell, I still have rear control arms from rock krapper that I need to sell off. The only thing from their kit I still have on is the rear springs.
