i did my gate handle today. used a 1/2" bit spread them 1 1/2" from the center of each hole and fit 3 of them in there it looks good, but with the 1/2" bit, i really didnt get a full circle. its kinda off a little but you cant see it when you stand about 5 feet back. looks pretty good though. it just needs to be retouched with a circle file or something.

I'm planning on 3/8...unless I decide otherwise. I figured 3/8 was approx the size used on the Liberator. Was wondering how it would look if I could color match my handles to the kj and then drill.

drill first then paint or you will have black showing where you drill

and you can do 3/8 if you want to copy the Liberator exactly, me I wanted different

Well I've been rained out on this project for this weekend. Tropical storms stink! We're gonna give it a shot next Saturday. Anyone else have a successful drilling session this weekend?

I drilled the handles. They are 3/8". The wood strip I use to hold the break on when I take a tire off. I measured the opening where your hand goes into the handle, transferred the measurements onto the wood and drilled the four 1/2" holes. Then placed the wood over the handle, inserted the 3/8" bit and just hit it a little to mark where to drill.

i think i might have to do this but i might order some allen head bolts and cut the heads off. drill the holes to fit then somehow glue the bolt heads in place similar to the fender bolts on my renegade.

Get a handle from a junk yard and try this: get a solid metal rod, heat it up and see if you could make a dimple so the Allen head would be recessed. From the looks of the thickness of the handle you wouldn't be able to make it very deep though.

Tom: I agree, but wouldn't be surprised if one of the 2WD guys doesn't try it. It would be okay on a blinged out KJ.
