Had a 4.0 in my 02 wrangler. I like the 3.7 better :D

That's worse then a 2.4 gas KJ,one of GM's worst disasters along with any V-6(besides the 4.3) they've ever made.

I had both the 4.2 in an Olds. Bravada and the 4.3 in four other GMs. The 4.3 was fine, towed many a boat of out the water. The 4.2 was peppy, but about once a week there was a recall on it.

The 4.0l was great. I miss it so much. I wish the KJs had it.

the 3.4 dohc in my 93 z34 lumina trudged on for almost 160k with nothing more than alternators being replaced, and i finally fixed the alternator issue with a larger battery and a bigger alternator

by 100k it was leakin a quart per tank of gas and i usually didnt care much to put oil in it till whenever i happened to buy 2 qts at the gas station by then it usually needed both quarts

i drove it about 50k with a bad rear valve cover gasket who knows what vacume lines leaking, a bad iac sensor and a failing intake gasket

regardless, when i quit driving it for the jeep, it still ran really good

oh and the radiator had a hole about halfway up so it was always low on coolant

what a good runnin junker it was

engine ran great!

every shop in town for the first 6 years i had it refused, one by one, to work on it

theyed replace the alternator, and refuse to ever work on it again

2nd to last one that got replaced, i didnt even make it home before the alternator quit haha

turned right around and took it back, it was like i had kicked the guy in the cajones

the last one, my uncle and i put on along with the bigger battery, and it's been workin fine for going on 8 years, replaced the battery about a year ago

timing belt exploded at 60,200ish miles while in a scratch-o-matic, was sittin there waitin for the green light to come on, it turned green i pressed the gas and the car shut off

was a good car, now my uncle can deal with it haha

i will say, for a car that weighed as much as it did, which is like 500 lbs more than the tarus, it had alot of pep and still does

if the interrior wasn't friggin dry rotted and the drivers side door falling apart, busted window motor/track/busted outside doorlock and handle fell off

woulda been worth yankin the motor and rebuilding it and fixing the oil leak!

I think the 3.7 is a great engine. Just get a manual and drive it a little harder! The 4.0 is fine in my wrangler, but nothing close to peppy on the road....

The 3.7 & the 6 spd work very well together, it is true.
