I don't see any way I could have done it without removing the bumper, or at least the air dam. (Which I ended up doing anyway. . . .) The shackles for the hooks have a clip with built-in studs that has to be inserted into the frame, the opening in the frame for the clip has a cap on it that has to be removed, and and I saw no way to get the caps off without removing the bumper, which fit flush over the caps. You sure it's not 08+ KK's you're thinking of?

It's an '06 KJ Sport. I just cut out the tabs, crawled under the front end and installed the Mopar tow hooks using the "M" bolt. Didn't have to remove anything. It took maybe 30 minutes max.

Know where I can get some M-Bolts, and will they work with the same setup I have now? My passenger-side hook shackle is bent down, from the same reason as Budke's. If I can replace just the one shackle with an M-Bolt setup, that would be greeeeaaatttt. (Like TPS reports)

Anyone have a pic up-close and personal of the M-Bolt style shackle?

Well I was just playing around and that spot was just cleared out from a bunch of brush and I was kinda muddy so I wanted to get a lil dirty. Walked out on the stuff and poked it with a big stuck to see how solid it was, seemed pretty solid at first.
Once the KJ was on it, sunk like a rock. I turned 90degrees trying to get out then it got mushier and sticker and I was screwed.
axle was sunk, skid was a little buried. It was bad. hah

Hope this helps... here are the instructions for installing the MOPAR tow hooks. Pages 2, 3 and 4 show the M bolts.

http://site.justforjeeps.com/guide/82206124.pdf

Note: on the earlier model KJ, the instruction have you remove the air dam... on the newer models, you don't have to remove anything, just cut out the tabs.

I like those rims you got, AZKJ. Do you know what model number those are, in case I decide to try my hand at getting some?

OT.... Thanks. They are Mopar 17" Daktar rims. Don't know if they can still be ordered from the dealer or not. They're nice for on highway use but you have to be extra careful off road because of the narrow side wall when you air down.

Oppps... pic reattached, and yes the Dakar wheels. I don't recall what trim package they came standard on.

Stuck to the centerline of my wheels in muck and had to get pulled out sideways. Wasn't pretty.

My first tow (over a muddy high-center where my wheels wouldn't bite) did the same thing to one of my hooks at last year's ECS. I don't think I want to put myself in a serious situation again until I have a solid frame (hitch or similar) with a couple shackles on it. I don't trust the little brackets that mopar built for those hooks more than to tow someone down a street...in a straight line... on level ground.
