Quite true!

it's one of those medleys involving each individual engines composition from air/fuel in to exhaust out, detergent levels, frequency of tuneups and a slush of other reasons

If it was a perfect system and oil never broke down over time, all we'd ever do was change the filter and add back half a quart.

If you are worried order a kit from blackstone labs and use that to send them some oil at your next oil change. I plan to do this the next time I change my oil... just to see whats going on in my engine and be assured things are ok. I would like to keep my CRD a long time so I plan to send in some oil atleast once a year to see what story it tells of my engine.

I changed oil for my brother in his Celica he bought off a friend. It was baked on the dip stick and came out in clumps. Thats when you need to be concerned

That is still not as Black as what mine would look like. The Crd engine some how makes the oil dark in a hurry. Yes I use synthetic cus that is the spec. its still good though, its more about using a good quality oil of the correct weight and changing it at the right time than the color of what comes out.

If it comes out smoothly and is not burnt no worries I'm sure.

Why does your oil look so white on that black cloth?

If you're worried about it, get a Used Oil Analysis. X2 on doing it with Blackstone, I've had them run samples for me on both engine oil and trans fluid. $30 for peace of mind is a small price.

Diesel fuel has soot and doesn't always burn as clean.

Yeah………….due to the residue, diesel engines are dirty engines; hence the instant dirty oil. A by-pass filter will help with that.
