Glad you hear you and your family are OK. Much like yourself I'm sure, I drive my Liberty very carefully and cautiously. I love my KJ, and I would not respond in a friendly manner if a careless driver were to hit my jeep. I hope your repairs are handled quickly and correctly.

Rick

My last 4x4 (1998 Chevy S10 Blazer) was rear ended. The kid hit me at 45, told the cops and his insurance he was only doing 10-15. I had owned the truck exactly one month and it happened on a Friday the 13th...

His insurance company fixed his truck right away (looked like brand new in less then two weeks from the accident). I meanwhile had 3 doors that wouldn't open and the driver's door wouldn't close. Since I was 17 I couldn't get a rental car. His insurance company proceeded to tell me that the accident wasn't serious and no one was injured (the passenger of the other vehicle had 6 months of physical therapy and lost a college scholarship for wrestling because of injury to his wrist, my shoulders don't sit level to this day, yeah I geuss we WEREN'T injured). The cop on the scene wrote me a ticket for braking too suddenly (is there such a thing?). And his insurance company denied my claim because of that ticket. I fought the ticket and won (numerous witnesses). His insurance company ended up totalling my new truck (he actually broke the frame, 10-15 mph my @$$).

If that doesn't sound like a raw deal, I got a ticket for driving an unsafe vehicle (because the door wouldn't close) twice while I fought in court and had to deal with the possibility of getting kicked out of the Army for my injuries. Both tickets ended up being around $120 each. My insurance rates went up $100 a month because he hit me. Apparently Minnesota is a no fault state so I was to blame because I was on the road.

So his insurance company cut me a check for $7000 which would have been cool if the truck didn't cost me $8500. So here I worked my @$$ off to buy a decent vehicle, had it a month and lost $1500 because some idiot can't drive.

I am one of those "dangerous" 16-20 year olds and I have never caused an accident yet I am on high risk because someone hit me. I lost my truck and basically 2 months pay...I had to drive a $500 beater 20 year old 2 wheel drive truck through two minnesota winters because of that idiot.

Sorry for the rant but I hate it when people defend people that cause accidents. The vast majority of accidents CAN BE AVOIDED!!!! Very few accidents can be blamed on the car you're driving.

glad everyones alright, the school parking lot is a scary place i dont know how some of those kids got thier liscence, i make a point to hang back intill the place clears out, i got a few knicks in the paint from people hittin my jeep with thier doors, every time i see those marks in my doors i get furios, i cant imagine what i would do if some one actually hit me, most of us younger drivers are pretty scary, i cant stand riding in most of my friends vehicles, its like they just dont know what kind of damage a 2000 lb + vehicle can do to something it hits, i guess they just dont realize how dangerous and powerfull thier cars are

I kinda miss my old beater car, i didnt worry about it as much and replacement parts were cheap and a junkyard away

im done rantin now

Bud, I'm 41 years old and have one Silicon Nut, explain my aggressiveness?

You do need to check the stats, the insurance industry sure does.

YAH-Hoo !!!!

I do agree with the person who said you should have the child checked out though. If some freak thing happened, it would be neglect.

Wait until you get it to the repaur shop. When we were rear ended, there was some serious damage to the KJ that we didn't even know was damaged. (The poor things still had temp tags)

GET RID OF THE CARSEAT if you have not already. you need a new one since it was in an accident.

Most younger drivers are safe drivers, I for one can say I try to be. The only time my jeep had been hit was in highschool. Some stupid girl in a Toyota corolla backed into my door. She was trying to back into a parking space and never straightened out the wheel, thus hitting my side. I was sitting in the jeep and couldn’t hit the horn, I don’t know why I didn’t think of it. $500 to fix my door, didn’t do a thing to her car, she barely hit me, just enough to dent the door. She usually drove a jeep and if she would have been in it I don’t think it would of hurt a thing b/c it would of hit the plastic piece on my door. Life sucks.

I'm not pulling the personal injury deal. I'm thankful my 4mo old daughter was not hurt. I just want everything to be taken care of.

Yeah.. 17 yr old in a QX4. Unreal. Where was my silver spoon? He was a nice kid though and first words out of his mouth were, "Are you ok." He was really upset about it. I would hate hate to be the one to introduce him to the real world. I'll leave that to the next guy.

I didn't say pull the personal injury deal, but that kind of accident should be noted by the doctor. also ask if the car seat should be replaced.

Well I got 3 estimates. $2042 being the highest and $1968 the lowest. New bumper, new gate, new rim, new tire new spare mounting hardware. Very surprised that's all it was. I'm VERY impressed how this vehicle took a 30MPH rear end job.

Did they include a replacement (same make) car seat in your quotes?

Replace the child seat. It MUST be done.

Everyone should go to the doctor and get checked out. You're not introducing the party of the second part to anything. You're protecting your family. Don't think about the other person. Who cares who it was? Think of your family and make sure that you are checked. Get your eyes checked too. Impacts can cause eye damage that isn't picked up for years. If you don't get a doc to look at you, at least get one to look at your child. If something comes up down the line (it can and does happen often) then the auto insurance will cover it becuase you went to the doctor. If you don't go, auto insurance will NEVER pay for it and it'll come out of YOUR health insurance.

I'm glad to hear that the KJ can withstand a good impact without too much damage. Now go have a professional make sure you survived without any damage. And don't put your child into a seat that's been in an accident. That's actually against the law in some states.
