Our regulations are really hypocritical. The governement yells at manufacturers for not getting good enough gas mileage, and when they correct that with a diesel, then they get yelled at for environmental regs that are extreme.
Well I wouldn't go as far as saying all of that, BIG OIL is in bed with the government and auto manufacturers... they're probably more of a driving factor behind paying off automakers so that MPG standards for them
stay low while using their political connections to keep the governments "push for better MPG" nothing more than a bunch of barking.
If the EPA and treehuggers were smart they'd demand that more diesels be brought to North America from Europe. French companies Peugot and Citeron are both doing some spectacular things currently as far as reducing diesel emmissions, Bosch is planning to create 2,500 bar common rail injection system which would GREATLY improve emmissions and overall effientcy.
Gassers typically put off far more emmissions per mile than diesels, the EPA's testing system for emmissions is pure BS (just like their MPG testing). I'm all for protecting the envirmonment but the EPA (like most government agencies) needs to pull their heads out of their arses and stop slighting diesel technology from advancing in America
