Hell BMW owners have spent more on brakes at 50k miles than ThunderbirdJunkie has on maintenance and repairs in 73k miles

So far the Libby has 64,000 miles on it. The two problems I have had to this point are the rack and pinion (my fault) and the A/C compressor. Its an 06 that I bought new in 1/06. My 06 Rubi has had more problems by far. I won't even get into the money pit that my 04 Jag is.

My first car is way up there on the worst list... '84 Pontiac Sunbird.

My mom used to have a 78 Sunbird with the V8 in it. That thing screamed like no other car I've driven, but wow that motor was squeezed in there. Had to lift the engine to change the spark plugs

To the OP, sounds like you got a lemon to me. Only problems I've had on my 04 with 72,000 miles have been the lower ball joints replaced under the recall, and the idler arm pulley that broke while towing a CJ-6 back from Vegas Saturday. The seal on the top of my R&P steering is leaking, but it's nothing to be concerned with. Aside from that every other problem I've had has been due to my wheelin it too hard  The pass cv half shaft is clicking. Happened when I got the front end too far off the ground runnin a wash at high speed. Broke a lot of plastic on the fenders, broke the front drive shaft CV wheelin and replaced it with a new shaft and U-joints. Said u-joint cut my O2 sensor wire which I just soldered back together. Also broke my washer fluid res motor hitting the front bumper on a rock. Nothing other than that but body damage. I know the Liberty isn't a Wrangler, but I've been really happy with mine. I wheel the hell outta it and have gotten it places Wranglers couldn't go because of it's size. It rides nice on the freeway and is quiet inside for the most part. I laid it on it's side a week ago and only had some dents in the drivers door. Didn't even break the mirror. Personally I think you got a lemon as stated before. Best of luck with it.

Any 07 vehicle of any sorts shouldnt have the problems Ive had with this thing already, I bought a new vehicle to get away from working on old junkers. My old junker is the only thing getting me to work right now becuase the Liberty isnt, and has never been reliable. I dont know one day to the next if it will make the 33mile trip to work.

You say everything listed is small stuff, but you do the math and add it up, thats in the course of the year and a half I have owned it, it isnt spanned over 7.5years like yours.

Well, at 17K my water pump went out. As I am the only one I have heard of with that problem, I chalk that up to " you can get a bad anything." Since then, I have replaced the brake pads, which are normal wear on any car, and replaced one rear caliper because I could not get it to collapse all of the way. It may have still been fine, but..... I also have kids that are 8 & 6 now, and feel that the window switches are the greatest automotive toys ever. Yet I have had zero regulator issues. This may be a build-date change issue. I also am not driving a rebuilt KJ with an experimental engine. I have had the ball joints replaced under recall one time & they are fine now. No ABS. Didn't want that crap or an auto tranny. Starting/running issues? None. I am about to put the second set of plugs in at 70K, but it still runs fine.

Sorry you got a lemon, but part of it may be the driver. You do brag about how hard you are on stuff, and post pics/vids to prove the "floor it 'til it breaks or you make it" philosophy that many have. And whether you realize it or not, you probably accept things on the XJ without even realizing it that drive you crazy on the KJ. I've seen pics of the XJ and followed its mods/repairs, so I know I bit about it that you aren't exactly posting here. Like so many having the economy kick them in the pants , facing a large car payment while trying to buy a house may also be coloring your view of the KJ, and you may also be pissed off at the KJ for being unable to sell it when you tried. The KJ is probably the vehicle you have owned the longest sincce I have known you. Getting rid of somethitng for something else every few months does tend to limit the bad things showing up. The XJ you are talking about now: how long have you owned it & had it in something resembling perfect running order?

As discussed here and elsewhere, the KJ was originally designed to compete with the CRV & RAV4 back in the day. Do you really thank that you could have treated either of those in the same manner as your KJ and not have suffered as many failures even if they would be of a different nature?

I'd set off for an across country trip in my KJ at a moments notice. No, it is not a perfect vehicle. I have been pleasantly surprised by some things and disappointed by others, just as I probably would have been with anything I bought.

Dani has had the white xj since 2002. It has 200K on it and aside from normal stuff like ujoints ( I told the OEM joint sout fo the frotn axles last year) and brakes I dont turn wrenches on it.

I had my 86 ranger for 5 years and I never did anything to it except change the oil. I sold it 2 years ago and it is STILL being driven tot his day.
I had an 85 bronco II as a deidcated trail rig for nearly two years and did very little to it other than replace axles that I broke from oversized tires.

I broke a front axle on my trail rig xj, due to a welded front diff, 33's and a balls to the wall attempt through 3feet of water over a rock ledge. I typically drive it to and from the trail and I have it out all of the time. Ive only had it since late february, but it has seen more abuse since then than this liberty has ever came close to seeing.

My 84 Dodge Rampage has only left me stranded and needing repair once since January, and that was 3weeks ago when the original timingbelt broke.

We can say Im hard on it all day long but out of every vehicle I ahve ever owned this one gets the least abused, and it needs the most repairs.

ESP/ABS will cause more trouble then its worth, learn to drive without it, that solves many of your problems. Other than that wheel bearings, I've never owned a car that those didn't wear, they have to be replaces. Recalls don't cost you anything so stop whining about that. Lastly, it is all routine maintenance, so get over it.

I owned the twin 1980 Ford Fairmont 4-Door w/ the 200ci Thriftmaster I-6. In a word, gutless. Took a whole quarter mile just to hit 60 mph and trying to do burnouts on gravel would kill the engine. Still, I loved that car for almost two years.

They didn't recall 07 ball joints as they are SUPPOSED to have the problem fixed, but yet mine were bad at 35k. So it cost me money.
one wheel bearing was loose at 41k, and the other was making some noise. The auto zone wheel bearings I put in the wifes old Cherokee about 70,000 miles ago are still doing fine.

My 84 rampage still has the original calipers on it at 95,000 miles, and 20+ years of service. I replaced one a month or so ago at 50k on the liberty. The rampage also still has the original rack and pinion, which was just replaced on the liberty at 53k. The ABS was still working on my Cherokee with 250k on it until I took it all off.

No body ever said I needed ABS, or traction control, but having 3 very bright lights on all the time on a 2007 model vehicle you still owe 15,000 on is a little bit annoying.

Obviously all parts wear out eventually, but the amount of stuff I have had go wrong in 55,000 is completely ridiculous. It is pointless for me to sit here and argue with you folks about it, I'm on a dedicated Liberty forum talking about how junk they are, I dont exspect anyone to agree, but I felt like venting. I am sorry to say that as soon as I am able to sell this thing it will get sold and I will NEVER purchase another Liberty, and I'll probably stay away from newer chryslers all togather.

Darn, wasn't that I-6 a piece of (fill in the blank....)????? I basically had to keep molasses in the thing to keep the back-pressure from blowing the pcv value off the engine...

I had the 2-door coupe in the rag top with a split-front bench seat... Sexy...

The cruise control would sometimes fail to disengage when you tapped the breaks and sometimes the power-steering pump would just quit working when making a hard turn... :?

Maybe we should find one of these for a rally car, Aaron!!!!

I have a dedicated trail rig and a dd with awesome gas milage. I already replaced the liberty and it now sits beside the garage and will only be driven occasionally to keep the fluids circulated through it.

If it runs more than 30mintues it wont start and stay running until you let it sit. NO ONE has been able to fidn the issue, ive tried high octane fuel, differant plugs, ect The a/c compressor locked up at 35,000 miles, I have 50 on it now. And if its hotter than 80 degree's outside it runs about 240degree's. Thats WITH the new towing pacakge clutch fan/electric fan combo.

I am fairly certain the amount of warrenty window regulators is what put Chrysler under. When this thing is paid off, I'll be selling it ( if anythign is left of any value), and I will NEVER purchase another chrysler product.

2007 Liberty with 50k on it? did you buy new because all your problems should be under warranty still if new.

never did get a response to this question. Where is your warranty coverage?

Doesn't matter what you do, whatever you own will break. You are a Rosevillian, so it's inevitable. ;) (my in-laws are from around there).

The differance between me and most folks from perry county is I actualy maintain my vehicles, if something wears out i repalce it and not duct tape it.

Worst vehicle I ever owned: 1980 Chevy Chevette. It was haunted.

I have 71,000 on my '05 and no problems...I've only replaced expendables...and yes, I will keep my fingers crossed.
