Hiya, I am looking at a used Liberty but it doesnt have the tow package. Can I add this myself and get the same towing capacity and ability I would get with the factory package? If so, what do you think this would cost to add? Thanks |

No, Ive read the crd comes with everything it needs to tow from factory ever if it doesnt have the tow pack. The kit for the 3.7 comes with a tranny cooler and a engine driven fan. Some of the libertys already have the tranny cooler so you may not need that depending on the year. |

I wonder what factory cooler upgrades were on the early 03's??Noscapegoat wrote: I think you would still Automatic transmission cooler Jeepinbyal sells it for $40
http://www.jeepinbyal.com/files/index.php?id=8 Is that as good or big as the factory cooler? I called the dealer on my 03 and got a number of 5191979AA listed as a transmission cooler for early 03 with 45RFE at 125.00 list. |

I don't have the tow package and I pulled a camper to Moab the last two years through the Rockies. Of course, it only weighs 1500lbs. No issues with temperature at all. Needle stayed just below the mid point |

I am mostly concerned for slow speed driving on back roads where the converter is un-locked generating more heat. Also all the threads here about transmission troubles is kinda scary too. Hayden sell a 5x11 #676 or 5x12.5 #401 cooler that may fit well, they say both cool just as well because the smaller one is more efficient due to its design. |

A part of me wanted to add a tranny cooler even if I wasn't towing anything. I've heard it next to impossible to get tranny oil to cold and you sure don't want it getting to hot. I put in an overside Hayden #405 cooler. It took some extra working getting it to fit at about 10x16, but puts my mind at ease when I'm pulling the 3800lb camper. I'd also suggest having some kind of trailer brake if you're pulling more than 3000lbs. |

Wouldn't hurt to have a trailer brake even for 1500 lbs. |
