I was at Sam's Club yesterday. They have a champion 7500lb mountable winch for $290. I never heard the name, but the thing looked like every warn I've ever seen. Anyone heard of them or have one?

It seems like a great value.

My buddy was lookin at those the other day and is thinking about getting one. I've always heard that you want a winch that will pull 2x the vehicle weight. Out KJ's weigh in at roughly 4k lbs so it would be close and probally would take care of you if you were kinda stuck but if your STUCK it might not do the job.

I know several people with the 9000# version which SAMs had over a year ago. They could pull okay, very slow, suck alot of current under load, and have extremely weak brakes to hold. As of now they have all retired them to trailer winches or given them away because the brakes failed; they still pull.

BTW: 7500# is way to small for a liberty; 8000# is minimum for a CJ.

Exactly. Even if this winch performs alright for a short while, when something fails, do you trust the company to back it's product up, either with a warranty or parts/service? If I was going to invest in something like that that's going to be responsible for the safety of my rig, I'd rather pay for something by a big name brand so I can know what kind of quality I'm getting.
