Post subject: | Mounting question for Rock Rails |
I'm building a set of rock rails this weekend. I was thinking of using the rivnuts to mount them into the stock holes already cut into the frame to accept these, but they just don't seem like they would be strong enough from the picture ![]() I am going to be attching to the frame as well as bolting thru the pinch weld. WIll these hold or is there a better option? What keeps them from just sliding out? |

They are called nutzerts I believe. The one butzert in that pic has a bolt going through it. You slide the nutzert in a hole and tighten the bolt while holding the nut that is on the bolt. That compresses the nutzert into the hole and doesnt let it come back out. Heres a pic: ![]() You would then tighten the bolt, I couldnt hold a wrench, a ratchet, and take a pic all at the same time. Do you see the picture in your head now? Ohh, and they arent that strong, it depends on how hard you would be on the sliders if they would hold or not. |

I don't plan on being hard on them, but they are there is case I am ![]() Do you think threading new holes in the frame would be a better idea? The frame itself seems kind of thin to be using it as a nut. There are some access holes in the bottom of the frame. Maybe I can drill some new holes near the access holes and just slide a wrench up inside. Thanks for the input. |

. Jeepjeepster, Do you have any other pix of your install? How long did it take you? I recall on the OEM rock rails or side steps that you have to drill into the frame too ![]() |

I just cannot see myself drilling holes in the frame, and yes you have to drill holes. Ive yet to get into rocks big enough to hit my rocker panels. |
