They are called nutzerts I believe. The one butzert in that pic has a bolt going through it. You slide the nutzert in a hole and tighten the bolt while holding the nut that is on the bolt. That compresses the nutzert into the hole and doesnt let it come back out.

You would then tighten the bolt, I couldnt hold a wrench, a ratchet, and take a pic all at the same time. Do you see the picture in your head now? Ohh, and they arent that strong, it depends on how hard you would be on the sliders if they would hold or not.
