Post subject: | 2006 Liberty Keys |
Has anyone tried getting a spare key done for a 2006 Liberty? We just purchased a new Liberty 65th Anniversary Edition and it had the normal two fob keys with chip. I just want a "valet" style key (thats what my 2005 X TJ has) since I didnt want to carry that big key in my pocket, since I have several keys already plus normal pocket change. When I asked the dealer: salesman and the head parts guy about the "valet" key, they said you have the have the whole fob type key. I have a hard time with that. Seems pretty stupid that I have to carry around that large key. So, has anyone gotten a spare key made for a 2006 Liberty without the fob? I see in the owners manual how to program the key, but it doesnt say whether or not anything other then the normal fob key is available. |

You could have a normal key cut at a dealership but you couldn't start it with it. If you use that key you risk shut down of the cars computer. Then you have to wait at least three hours before you can start it again. Don't talk to your salesman about it just go to the parts dept. and ask the counter guy about it. Parakeet |

Try one of these? They're supposed to be transponder keys ... not sure if they are really compatible ![]() Transponder keys for '05 and '06 Liberty Also a while back someone posted about this Rock key, transponder compatible |

I might be wrong but I thought it was mentioned before that the 04 style keys will also work with an 05+. I hate the new keys i always accidentally push these buttons on the key when i use it. |

i found a key on ebay that has the chip in it, but no buttons, way thinner, and it runs the vehicle...quite a little dance to program the key....LOL you need to have BOTH of your factory chip-filled keys, and the new one already cut in order to program it. i dont remember the ebay dealer name, but do a search, and it'll show up no problem! |

I'm sorry I should have been more clear. The system will shut the computer down after 3 tries with a non-programmed key. It's a royal pain in the rear when it happens. I've had it happen to me at the dealership. Either way if you just want to unlock the doors and have an emergency key to keep in your wallet/purse, go to the dealership and have them make you one of the old style. Parakeet |
