Today, I started the ol' KJ that sat since last week's trip to the PA Jeep show. Started it up and the thing sat at just over 3 grand, didn't slow down. Shut it off, started it again same thing. Three times it happen. It is a good thing that I am not one of those start to drive guys, I would have went through the rear of the garage!!!! It did not pull a code.

Problem:

Very dirty valve body. Also has the reverse the KJ will shut down with a dirty vave body.

Fix:

Cleaned valve body with lint free rag, spray carb cleaner, and took out the lower sensor from valve body and that was all dirty.

This has been a problem with the Grands, the first time I heard of this in the KJ.

So guys, next time you change the oil, clean the valve body to be safe.

Al

yes the thottle body....brain fart! The high flow ifilter s one of those import cones. I keep it clean and oiled, but it may be letting dirt in. I guess I will need to stop being cheap and get a good filter. I have also noticed with 85K on the ol KJ there is some oil blow by (Tell tale sign of the rings or valve seals going) but I don't burn oil nor do I lose any. I don't add any during the 3K oil change interval. Its just the nature of the beast I suppose. The oil beather is piped right into the thottle bodyon my 2002, so I think this helping a little.
