I bought my 2005 Limited in April & it's due for a front & rear diff fluid change. Is there any way I can tell if the rear is a Trac-Lok? Wouldn't want to screw it up by excluding the friction modifier if it is.

Thanks everyone,

jonb
2005 Limited, maybe with trak-loc???

You can get a build sheet of your KJ from Chrysler by either visiting the dealer and giving them the last 8 digits of your VIN# or going to Jeep.com..owner services and you can shoot them an e-mail requesting a build sheet...hope that helps...

look at the rer diff if you have trac loc it will have 2 tags 1 is the axel ID tag the other is the trac loc tag and has the fluid type on it
These 2 tags are metal and are held on by the diff cover bolts

If you post up a good pic I can tell you what you got

Thanks guys - here's what I got from Canadian Jeep customer assistance:

"Regrettably, build sheets are not available for reprint. However,
specific questions regarding original equipment of your vehicle can be
researched.
Basic information regarding your vehicle includes:
3.7 L V6 engine
4-Spd. Automatic Transmission
Selec-Trac Full Time 4WD System
Dana 30/186MM Front Axle
3.73 Axle Ratio
Corporate 8.25 Rear Axle
Our records indicate that your vehicle is equipped with Anti-Spin
Differential Rear Axle."

However - there are no metal tags on the diff, so I maybe I'm back at square 1?? Should I believe their email & put in the friction modifier? - will it harm the diff if it's not a trac-lok??
I'm Confused

On my rear diff, they is a sticker on the right side axle tube by the brakes. It tells you what you got. "3.73 OPEN" means you have 3.73 gears and an open diff.

thats crazy!!!! DC sent me a build sheet with everything i would ever want to know about my KJ!! the last "anti-slip diff rear axle" would make me think yours has the trac-lok, because my build sheet said nothing like that!!

The metal tag isnt on the diff. It's near the end of the axle, usually near the rear right tire side.
