If you got one of those Independence edition factory brush gaurds like I do, you can make the KJ look 125% more jeepy by taking off the added plastic crap. You'll find the rest of your jeep under there. Its more functional too. It has a cross bar underneath the plastic crap that is level with the original plastic bumper and ready for mounting lights to. It even opens it up where you can configure somekinda tow strap hook up. The plastic license frame won't fit back on the original bumper because of the cross bar...No biggy...attach a metal frame to the cross bar. I'll post pics soon Now I don't have to buy a new one. Its like unwrapping a good Christmas gift. |

I think I know what you mean, but I'm really interested in seeing pictures. Does it look like it was designed to not have the plastic crap originally? |

I don't have a clue how to post a pic in the message. Its on my web page though. Sorry its dirty and dusty, didn't have a chance to clean it up or paint the bolts, nor am I going too. The plastic crap is in the pic. I think the plastic is to add refinement and a bulky look http://www.thefergusons.us/kj/kj.htm "how soon is soon?" Well it was dark last night, and this mornin my whole body hurt and my wife was home...it took me a while to get out of bed. Like Allen Jackson says: "I'm as good once as I ever was" |

Very interesting. It does look much better without the extra pieces. |

Go Marines! Jferg, do you have a manual tranny with your Powertrax? With mine, I don't even notice it's there 90% of the time with my auto tranny. |

I guess I don't notice mine on the road either, I'm retired now and make mostly small trips with a lot of low speed parking lot turning. You know how tight this thing turns. Hiway is fine, curves fine...off road Superb. I'm gonna start some volunteer work so I don't complain about the little things. |

Yeah that is interesting. I wasn't aware DC made that? I think the only brushguards I've seen are those which conform to the top of the KJ hood. |

Hammer, I still agree with with you...Its about useless Hoss, I'm busier too...Mostly around the house stuff...I work hard on the projects handed to me by my wife. I usually drive my truck to town because it hauls more. I go to school so I can throw another degree in the bottom drawer as I'm really retired and don't need it. I just don't want to waste free government money. |

I still agree with with you...Its about useless Well I never saw the need. A lot of that is because the bars I've seen on KJ's (as mentioned above) are butt ugly to me. That's me. From what I see on yours, it looks much better than what I'm used to seeing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that bar is mounted to the towhook mounting points, right? I was wondering how stable it would be if you extended that plate over the center bumper for a winch? Lights on the top bar might work too? Just thoughts. |

Hammer, It is mounted to the hook mounts, I believe the bolts are actually long enough to add hooks. I'm still pondering that plate on the top. There are even holes in the side plates for a "T" bracket to mount to. I'm going to put one on just for the heck of it. Good step if nothing else. I believe a plate will hold on a straight low angle, or level winch pull. I think that a side pull (might) bend the brackets depending on how stuck...my take If the hook thing is a "no-Go", I'm going to fabricate a small triangle out of 1/4" steel with tow ring at the point "V mount" and bolt it to the tow hook points. This will distribute the weight better and works better for me since I use a come-a-long. I have towed it before hooked to the brush gaurd. The Top mounts flex a little and kinda rubbed the paint where it goes in next to the grill. Its dang hard to see the top mounts in the pics, if you look about mid way up the gaurd/grill on the second pic you'll see a small black piece of metal going at a down angle. I think the top mounts just stablize it. |

Looks good. I think you should run it into some brush and see if it holds up. |
