Looking at Liberty specs sheet at Jeep's web site, found that the off road group includes
"heavy-duty engine cooling with auxiliary oil cooler for automatic
transmission, power steering cooler..."

Asking to the salesman if this feature is included in a unit, he
was not able to answer (I bet he had no idea about what I was talking about).

How can I tell if a vehicle is equipped with it? Where are those
items located? I mean, not reading it from a spec list but locating
them under the hood (if that's where they're located).

A picture would be greatly appreciated.

As always thanks for your help.

All of the 04 libbys came with the tranny cooler. The HD engine cooling is an extra fan that is driven by the engine. If you have the towing pack then you got it.

I believe the transmission oil cooler is located inside the radiator.

Nope, that was only on 02's I believe and some 03's that had the 45rfe tranny. When they went with the 42rle, they put the tranny cooler on all of them.

I have the tranny temp light come on routinely and all the dealership can tell me is that I need to take it easier (not realistically possible) or get a second tranny cooler above the factory one located behind the front bumper and in front of the radiator (right where it gets no airlow). The second one would be placed directly behind the grill so it might actually work.

Mine is a 2002 so things might be slightly different as I haven't kept up with all of the small changes between model years.

I didn't select the Off Road group. Only the Trailer Towing group which included:

Class 3 hitch
7pin harness connector
Tranny cooler - HD cooling
PS Oil Cooler - HD cooling
and I thought a real Oil Cooler but can't remember
Mechanical Fan + Electric Fan for radiator cooling - HD cooling

Here is a picture of the mechanical fan (the biggest indicator of the heavy duty cooling features)

I know there was a change in transmissions after the 02 model year, but I have never once seen the trans temp light come on. I used to pull a lot of stuff around with my Jeep, but never really did any hard core off roading so maybe I took it pretty easy on my Jeep?

Everyone I know with the an '02 (w/ the 45RFE) have not had any problems with the tranny overheating, it's just those of us that have the 42RLE that are having the problems. Correct me if I'm wrong but I also think that the '02s also had a tranny cooler that is the same height and width as the radiator.

Yeah, the tranny cooler is pretty large. I don't have any pictures of it on hand though.

It's too bad that DCX swapped to the 42 Tranny when the 45 worked so flawlessly in the liberty.

That's probably the A/C condensor yer lokkin at. "03 trans cooler is the same as '04. KJTX has a 2003 without HD cooling. I have a 2004 with HD cooling. They both have the same trans cooler, but the transmissions in them are differant.

One more thing, KJTX's KJ will outrun mine on takeoff. I'm guessin this may be due to my engine turning the mechanical fan, losing some power. Also the earlier transmissions had a lower 1st gear than the later ones.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I had looked at USAFCOP's tranny cooler and it was different than mine. USAFCOP's is an early '02 and mine is a fairly late '04. Like I said, I might be wrong and the next time we meet up I take another look at it.
