| Post subject: | Light Bar Question |
I've wanted the roof-mounted light bar since I got my CRD. Now I'm thinking about putting it on, but something occured to me. I'm on the highway a LOT, and i wonder if the light bar 1) increases wind noise, and 2) creates enough drag to drop fuel economy a bit. I noticed the lights have a nice, aerodynamic "look" to them, but I wasn't sure if that aerodynamic-looking housing is more for show, or if it actually works. If anyone has any feedback on this, I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks. |

i frequently frequent the highway and don't have the the light covers my light bar and i can hear the faintest of wind noise going 70 - 90 mph. with the covers on i cant hear noticeable noise. but if ya drive with the radio on any troublesome noise will disappear! |

I plan to do my lightbar around christmas time...Does the wiring go w/ the main headlights or can you bypass that and make it a seperate switch to flip on any time you'd like? I don't think I'd want them on all the time. But the libbys look mean w/ them on. |

There is a seperate switch for them that goes on that little trim piece on the left hand side of the steering column....they don't come on with the headlights or anything unless you wire them that way...the switch is the only thing to turn them on... |

This is good...I was hoping it was like that. I imagine I'd scare people w/ all those lights on the road!!! |

It does seem to increase wind noise, particularly with the roof open. It creates turbulence over the roof. My wife's Nissan has a sun roof and when it's open it's completely quiet, not so with the KJ |

My 06 has been to the dealership twice for wind noise that comes from the sunroof... They determined it was from the lightbar and actually not the sunroof. I am very picky about noises my car makes and when you are on the highway with your music on (even low volumes) its nothing that bothers me. Well worth it in my opinion, my libby looks awesome with the lightbar on! |

Without the light covers on I noticed an almost imperceptable drop in gas mileage and a slight increase in noise. With the covers on, I don't even notice them up there. Hope this helps. |

Well, before I bought my '06 Renegade, I drove a silver '06 Renegade without the light bar which had no noise whatsoever. When I got mine, I noticed the turbulence above the sun roof (it's neat when it's raining, the raindrops go TOWARDS the windshield, not away from it) and when the sunroof is closed you get a very quiet squeaking noise, as if the glass was flopping around inside the rubber gasket. If the noise gets irritating, just slide the cover closed. I also can hear a whistling when the sunroof is open and the light covers are off at about 60MPH, but you really have to listen for it to hear it. Hope that helps. |

I don't have a sunroof. So, do you think I will notice ANY noise? |
