To me, my 05 Liberty has TOO GOOD of a throttle respone. It seems the TSP is set TOO "TIGHT" and the throttle responds quickly with VERY minimal input.

I'm considering backing off the TSP a bit.

What's your throttle response like with the 3.7L ?

Yea, TPS. I was in a hurry.

Yea, they are adjustable. I'm going to "tweak" mine to make it LESS responsive. Maybe that'll help increase my MPGs! 8)

I may have a solution to your throttle repose issue.
Go with a diesel, the CRD will end any complaints for too much throttle response.

That sure is a cure!

I really wanted a CRD (REAL Bad!), but the Stealership refused to deal on them and we weren't willing to pay a $5,000 Premium just to get one.

My wife has the 2wd Sport with the 3.7L and the 4.whatever gearing (mine has the 3.55 gearing), and there is a NOTICEABLE difference in throttle response between them. Her's is positively twitchy with acceleration from a start, where mine is a lot smoother (both are Auto's).

"Twitchy" is a VERY GOOD description of what I'm talking about.

My Liberty also has a 3.7L and it's WAY MORE "twitchy" than my 98 Explorer with a 4.0L/auto/4.10 gears!

I was thinking my Liberty had AT LEAST 4.10s, but it only has 3.55s.

FWIW, 4.10s are only available with the 2.4L.

You say your Lib has too much throttle response..??
What are you comparing it to? If you're not comparing it to another Lib, then you're not doing yourself any favors by backing down the TPS.

Also, when you kick on the A/C with the TPS set so low, it could kill the engine.
At the least, you're gonna get a check engine light.

By backing the TPS away from the "correct" setting, all you're going to do is cause the engine to run lean, as the throttle cable will still open up the intake and allow the same amount of air in, but the computer will think you aren't pushing the pedal down as far and will therefore not give as much gas.

Running lean can damage sensors and your catalytic converter.

Won't the O2 sensors catch this lean condition and the computer to correct for it ??

They may after a little while, but in the end it won't be any less sensitive, it will just require pushing the pedal further before anything happens, and putting the pedal to the floor will probably no longer give you full throttle.

That's what I want to accomplish.

And that "may" be a GOOD THING!! It'll slow my lead-footed wife down and hopefully increase the MPGs!!

Not trying to sound insensitive, but instead of trying to change your Lib, why don't you and the wife change your driving style?
That sounds much easier...

Like I said in an earlier posting. My Liberty's throttle input is extremely sensitive. Kinda like a motorcycle engine-like response.

I've been driving since 1978 and my wife since 1980, so I don't think our driving style is gonna change! :>) Thanks for the suggestion though!
