Post subject:  Spare Keys

I had the misfortune today of locking my keys inside my Liberty. So, I'm wondering can I get copies of a key for a 2005 (key less entry on key) made with a regular key blank? I know I won't be able to start the Jeep with a key this way, but at least I could stash one in my wallet and one in my desk somewhere at work.

Also, the locksmith let me in on a secret, you can't use a slim jim on the front doors, there is nothing for it to hook onto. You have to use one of the back passenger doors. After watching him, I'm confidant that I could do this in a minute with a bent coat-hanger.

I got a spare made for mine ('03 with separate fob) and keep it in my wallet. Always nice to know you can get in if you have to.

I did the same thing. I have the key with the chip in it too. They told me when I had the key made NOT to try and start the jeep with it b/c some woman got mad one day when she tried it and the car(not a jeep) wouldnt start back without a trip to the dealer.

I went out and tried to start the jeep to see what would happen. It just shuts down after 3sec then starts back up with the normal key..

Ive used the key a couple times now to unlock my jeep. Really nice..

I always wondered if you could unlock the libby with a slim jim. I dont understand why they let this happen knowing cars are broken into all the time.. Kinda ignorant.
