My apologies for posting in the general discussions. I want to hard wire a Sirius radio with the supplied Cig. adapter. Can I just cut the cig plug off and put either end to positive? Or will I fry the radio if I use the wrong wire? One of the wires has white dashes on it if that's any indication of pos. or neg.? I'll also put a fuse on the pos. wire. What size? Thanks... I'm anxious to wire this.

Do not cut the adapter off. Sirius uses 6V, not 12, so the adapter is needed to step down the voltage.

Go to radio shack or an auto parts store and get a cigarette lighter port that you would normally install into the dash, plug the adapter into it, and wire that to the power feed to the radio.

That way, the sirius will turn off with the car and you can stuff all the wiring behind the dash. If you wire it to the cig lighter instead, it will stay on all the time.

I just plug mine in and hide the wires the best I can ,it works for me

Pixel is correct, all the new sirius units (sportster 4, starmate 4, stratus) are all 6v, the older units (starmate replay, sportster replay, siriusone) are infact 12v and be hardwired by cutting the plug.

It is alot easier and safer to use the adapter plugs.

Dont worry about an inline fuse if you do hardwire it (unit depending), i've put in over 100 of em have never added an inline fuse.

Wow thanks for the heads up on the 6 volts. The Radio Shack wired cig. connector works perfect and has a built in fuse.
