Post subject:  Cold Morning Starts

Question....When I start my Lib first thing in the morning it makes a funny noise. On warmer days its fine, but recently it has been down in the 20's and teens early in the morning....I know its hard to judge, but does this happen to anyone else?

Crank it, and at the end of the crank there is a vrghhh type sound...lol. Yeah that does nothing to help, but I thought I would put it in there.

lol....I think I do know what vrgghhhhh sound you are talking about. I know mine makes a nice groan when first starting it after sitting overnight in that kind of cold. Something makes me think I read here that it may be the power steering pump. Not sure if that is the root of the sound.

Hope this is at least some help!

I also run Mobile 1 & both my KJ's make that noise first thing in the morning after it's been realy cold at night, so I know exactualy what you guy's are describing, until it doesn't start I don't worry about it the cold will effect all vehicles in strange ways

Yup, this has been talked about before.. Mine does it when cold too. I also use mobil one but I do not believe this has anything to do with it.

Very normal - I believe it is related to the power steering pump (the fluid doesn't like the cold).

(BTW: entirely normal.)

Yeah, vehicles for the most part don't like cold weather. I find though for me after -15 celsius or so, if I'm not plugged in, I'll get a couple sounds from the engine. But aren't we all tough to get going first thing in the morning?

My 02 did that too until I changed out the power steering fluid. I suctioned out as much as I could from the reservoir and topped off, ran for a few seconds to circulate, repeated process until the fluid was coming out pretty clean looking. No more noise since. Did that about a year ago.

You know what products I use & sell, However, on the Power steering I have found it to be finicky and work best w/ Mopar PS fluid. My 94 XJ seems to work best w/ it too.

Oh and about the OT part of this thread, I use synthetics in all my vehicles too, but Not that Mobil1 stuff.
