ok.. i did a search but didnt come up with anything specific.. also looked in tech articles.. has anyone changed their own tranny fluid and filter? i need to do this and wanted to see a write up or faq if someone did it already.. i've done it on my 70 chevelle a few times so shouldnt be that different of process.. granted this is a 2004 lol but if anyone has info or has done it let me know how much a pita it is or not  also part # for filter..etc

I did it myself. I'll see if I can post a write up. I also have an extra filter kit if you want it. Includes Filter and gasket |

How often should it be changed? 68K and not done yet.

I just bought all the fluid last week to change the tranny and the transfer case. I still need to pick up the filters. I have the 45rfe, the manual says I have two filters and one needs a special tool for removal. Anybody know what the tool is? |

Hey BakerKJ, The "special" tools that I can think of that I needed were just a Torx driver for the flat filter. I also have a set of small pick tools and had to use one to the flat filter's O-ring out. For the other filter, if I remember correctly, I was able to get that loose by using a regular oil filter wrench. That was the easy filter. The biggest pain of the whole thing was getting the flat filter's O-ring out, and then getting the new one to seat flush into the housing. Once you get in there, you'll know what I'm talking about. You just need a socket that's exactly the same outer diameter as the O-ring, and you can tap it in to be fully flush. Hope this helps!

Not a problem at all! I'm sure you already have it, but just in case, don't forget the RTV sealant! Good luck with the project! I thought it was kinda cool to see what it looked like with the pan dropped.

For what it's worth, here are the filters. I don't remember how I got the little filter out. It may be smaller than your oil filter wrenches accommodate. I may have grabbed it with a large channellocks. 
EDIT : YES... As pointed out. These are from the 45RFE Transmission. The drawing in the Parts Manual for that other one shows a large, square filter. Does the other transmission HAVE two filters ? |

ok thanks for the information.. i need to do this soon.. been putting it off for awhile and its almost winter again.. thanks for the pics too.. keep the information coming.. Eddo.. any probs getting the bolts off the pan around the exhaust? |

Hmm. Thanks for the pic eddo! I know what kinda filter to look for now.. They always seem to give us the wrong one.. Then when your right in the middle of a puddle of oil, you find out you have the wrong filter..
