Post subject:  Dead Animal?

I'm getting a dead animal smell out of air vents. I suspect that a woodland critter, a mouse probably, has gotten up into my vent system and bit the big one. Anyway out there with experience in this area that can tell me how to get into my vent system easily? I'm sure, like most cars, it's a royal pain in the stupid  Experience is always helpful, that's why I'm asking here before tearing into the dash to find the source of the smell. It's not bad now, but it's getting worse each day.

Pop the vent covers and push in a rolled-up towel on flexible stick? If you're adventurous I suppose you can hose it down from inside the cabin? Might want to disconnect the other end of the hose where it goes into the A/C first if you're gonna flush it this way though :)

I had the same issue with a racoon. Before taking it all apart, go to a car wash and use the sprayer under your kj, Make sure the settig isnt high pressure. The better you get under there the better the result. Also on a side note, look out for ants. With the smell and if something is under there, they will pool up in your floor boards

Explore the engine compartment also. Never know if something is stuck and toasting in the engine compartment.

Your message prompted me into action, up till now, I had just kept the vent off. So I broke out the shop vac and taped on a piece of 1" ID vinyl tubing and sucked out all my interior vents, with nothing being found. I then took a look at the engine compartment, nothing there either. I then popped the plastic quick nuts on the cowling in front of the windshield, to suck out the intake area. On the passenger side, where the air intake leads into the interior, was a mouse nest built around the screened input. I sucked that out, including the dead mouse, which was just about dried completely up. Obviously been there for some time. Put everything back together, and all is well.

HOWEVER, while backing out of the space close to the house, I wasn't paying attention and backed into a tree on our property :( I managed to smack it pretty good, cracking the bumper fascia and smacking the rear hatch handle hard enough to push it in a ways. stinky poo! Now, because of a dead mouse, I've got a dinged rear door and cracked bumper cover! I took off the inside panel and was able to push out the dent somewhat, but it still looks like stinky poo. Oh well. :(

Ohh, sry about that dude. STUPID MOUSE!

You must of been moving for the tree to make it all the way to the door handle! At least it didnt hit the spare tire and push it in.. It may not of even hurt anything if it did hit the spare though. Hard to tell; people get hit from the rear all the time and it barely pushes it in at the bottom. Those things are fairly strong..

The tree leans a bit, hit the bumper and handle simultaneously. I probably wasn't going more then three or four miles an hour. My driveway is gravel and dirt, on an incline, so I was backing up hill slightly. It started to slip a bit, so I gunned it, and then smack.

I got a quote from a local shop, $1250.00 for the repair job, I sheepishly called AAA and filed a claim. I sure hate doing stupid things.

Here's a picture of the damage, taken in the dark, so I apologize for the quality.

Yup, I smacked it pretty good. How's that saying go... Familiarity breeds contempt? I guess I felt I knew our driveway too well, and got caught. Lesson learned, ALWAYS look over your shoulder when backing up, no matter how well you know the area.

The KJ's going into the shop this morning, and I may get it back by Friday afternoon, I hope, I hope.

That is some damage.
I did something similar to my Liberty I was parking in our heated garage at work. There is a fire hydrant close to where I parked. Well there is also a pillared about the same height at the fire hydrant which is about 3 feet or so high. Well I hit the passenger side corner of the bumper, but didn’t get as much damage as you.
