Post subject:  '02 Jeep libby brake question

Quick question folks-

I got a "scrubbing" sound in my left front when brakes are applied, I'm assuming this is because it's time to replace the pads. Am I correct?

Edit- I also need a jack to do this with, but the last one i tried it was not tall enough. Anyone have a size that works for the libby?

Scrubbing or grinding noises indicate that you are at metal to metal contact for the front brakes.

Park the Liberty, get a jack and some jack stands and take off the offending wheel. Look for tiny metal flakes (typically a shiny pile next to dirty suspension parts) for confirmation. If you see the flakes, you'll need your rotors turned along with the new brake pads. If you are not comfortable doing them yourself, take the Jeep in ASAP because brakes are super important.

I am pretty sure i can handle it. It just started this afternoon so it caught my attention quickly to say the least. It isnt a griding noise just a scrubbing one. I will just do both front. And it looks like my rotors are in good shape.

Anyone have any size recommends for the jack? mine is too short

I picked up a 3 1/2 ton 20" lift floor jack from Harbor Freight for 50 bucks that works well.
