Daytime Running Lights

I am a firm beliver in DRLs, so I wired the OME fog lamps to go on anytime the Liberty was running. Overtime I noticed the housings get very warm. Time to explore another way for DRLs. Found some 4" amber LED lights on eBay. At first was going to put them in the bumper but found they would not fit. Ponder for a few days and came up with this. Amber DRL in the holes for the OME fog lamps and add some 2x4 oval fog lamps in the outer holes of the bumper.

You'll feel bad when you really need the fog lights and they're burnt out.

The low beams are 50% better than the lights&fog lights I had on my old truck.

I think they look great and probably show up well in the day. Unfortunately, I don't have those holes in my 05 Renegade; the fog lamps are white stand alones on the bumper. When you were looking, were there any LED amber lamps that were small like yours and stand alone? I had thought of possibly adding small drivng lights that could also serve as DRLs, but they would also be hot and would be a bigger drain.

I was not looking that type of light, so I do not know. eBay has lots of LED lights so a long search will be needed. sorry.

You can setup the factory DRLs.

I think you need a $35 DRL relay to plug into your inside fuse box and have the dealer reset the country code to Canada, about another $30. This was written up about a year ago I'd guess.

If you wheel you want to make sure you can turn off the DRL solution easily. In a tight lineup crawling through some obstacle where you're carefully picking your track you don't want someones lights reflecting back at you from your mirrors or creating shadows that make it harder to pick a track.

IMO DRLs should be left to motorcycles. When everyone uses DRLs they just become light-noise. Too many people drive with just the DRLs on at night and for some this means they have no tail lights on.

The DRL may be considered as light noise or pollution to some but I believe it has more of a reputation as a safety device since it is more visual then no light at all when you are the one driving into the sunlight.

You are going like this, I used hot glue to mount the light to the front grill. This is after I removed the OEM fog lights. In a week or two will use a better type of glue but the hot glue was the fastest way to get them mounted. I will take some pics when I add the better glue.
