Post subject:  Differential oils???
I know this has been asked before, but I am bad at the search function. I'm at 12,000 and plan on changing the front and rear differentials. I have the LSD in the rear and know I need the additive, but I'm confused by the manual. It says:

Mopar SAE 75W-140 (API GL5) Synthetic Gear Lube or equivalent. The 8.25 Corporate Rear Axle should use a SAE 75W-90 Gear Lube. For trailer towing, the lube should be replaced with SAE 75W-140 Synthetic Gear Lube.

I thought my '05 Renegade had the 8.25 Corp. Being that I do not tow should I be using the 75W-90, or is it just best to go with the 75W-140 in the front and rear? Last thing I want to do is void my warranty by using the wrong thing.

Using the 75w-90 in the front or rear will be fine if you are not towing or only towing light loads on occasion. Be sure to use a good quality, or better, synthetic though. LMK if you would like a quote for the Best stuff. :wink:
Oh and Yes you Do have a 8.25 Rear.

My manual makes no mention of using 75W-90 in the front, only in the 8.25. It seems to me from going through some other posts that different manuals say different things. So is it best to do what "My" manual says or just use the 75w-90?

From a warranty standpoint, you should use only what the manual suggests and yes, it will be different for the front and rear.

Unless of course you DO tow, then the fluid is the same front and back - 75W-140. I use it in both even if I don't tow...why not go synthetic if I'm already buying it for the front?!?!?! That's my $0.02 anyways... 8)

I agree with both points. I want to use what the manual suggests because of my warranty. And, I figured that if I had to buy the 75W-140 for the front (because the manuals says to use it), I may as well just use it in the rear too, because it should not hurt anything and it is listed in the manual.

Also, I think Amsoil makes the 75W-90 in synthetic if I read JJsKJ's site correctly. I'll probably switch over to Amsoil products.

Is there any reason the 75W-140 would not be good for the rear if I DON'T tow?

I can't see why it would given that "for towing = better protection/harder use" in my book. It may be a little thicker, but I doubt there'd be any noticeable difference.

Yes, different manuals might say different things. Running 75W-140 will give you a little more peace-of-mind so why not? It will also work just fine w/ 75W-90 too. As long as your diffs are full of good lube the dealer isn't going to question what was in it if it fails. AAMAF, if the front blows up they will never know what was in it due to it leaking out. Don't ask how I know. (and BTW, it was filled w/ 75W-140 at the time)

I went to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 in the back and Severe gear 75w90 in the front when I did the fluid changes on my Libby.

I used the LubeLocker gasket on my rear diff instead of smearing on silicone crap. Having to clean up that junk again is not what I want to waste my time on. Check them out at:

If you are interested in using the gasket, get the Chrysler 8.25 which is the same gasket as the Corporate 8.25. The gasket requires NO sealer. Just put it on and bolt on the cover. No mess, No fuss.

Make sure you are using the additive whichever you choose with the trac-loc.

I'm using syn blend 85-140 with my noslip...It still sucks.

Sounds familiar on the front diff only mine has way fewer miles. Since you are using Amsoil fluids I don't see why you couldn't make 300K. It certainly won't fail due to lack of good lubrication.

05 CRD with Selec-Trac. I'm changing the Front and Rear Diff fluids this weekend. My question is, Do I need the limited slip additive? I have been reading through my paperwork and the vehicle sticker and I do not see anything that says that the CRD is equipped with Trac-Loc. Thanks.

I would guess you don't have Trac-lock then. If you also don't see a sticker on the axle tubes saying Trac-lock, then I would really say you don't have it. If you do notice chatter after the change then we were wrong and you will need to add it. :wink:
