 Post subject: New to L.O.S.T and probably another annoying what lift post.

But I am still confused after searching and reading about different lifts for the Libby.

I have an 05 Sport that is mainly for street duty when its too cold or wet to ride the bike to work. I used to get dirty in the Wrangler but haven't done much since I traded it on the Libby (BTW guys, when your wife says she hates the Wrangler.... get a new wife, I learned my lesson the hard way) two years ago. I do like it even though I miss my Wrangler, I just never thought I would do anything with it.

Anyway, time has come to take it in the dirt around Dallas and was looking for a little more ground clearance and some bigger tires. I used to work part time at a Goodyear shop before I moved to TX from Philly and put Dunlop Rover AT 245/70/16s on it almost immediately after I bought it to replace the terrible OEM tires. It was a freebie since I worked there. Also in case many of you don't know, if you buy a new vehicle and don't like the tires, many places will offer to buy them from you if they have under 100 miles on them and you get something else from their store. The Rovers were the only thing we had in that size and it was about to snow. They have been ok up so far, but now that I have almost 30k on them and they are terrible in the rain and I have even broken them loose from a dead stop on dry ground just by hitting the go pedal hard.

That all being said, I was thinking about 245/75/16 Goodyear Silent Armor since they get such good reviews on Tire Rack, they are offering a $40 rebate and I still have friends at Goodyear. I have not had ANY rubbing at all even at full lock with the 245/70s and looking under there it would appear as if I have plenty of room for 245/75s even without a lift. I dont plan on going rock crawling, just want to get out in the dirt a little but still have a ride that I can drive 30 miles each way to work on the cold / wet days.

So, I was thinking about some of the budget lifts out there but was reading about some that are OTT, not exactly sure what that means, but it seems as if they are bad. Why is that? I am trying to get away with spending as little money as possible because I know I wont be doing any "serious" off roading like many of you here, but I still want some lift.

Is there a cheap lift kit for dummies post? I also don't want something that is going to wear something else out way too early either. If I have so spend some money, that is fine, but I really cant see spending $800 on a lift kit right now, was hoping for something under $200.

HI THERE and WELCOME TO LOST!!!!
Check out this thread for all the different types of lifts available and what they have to offer you as far as height and durability...lots of people use the rusty's or frankenlift, but that doesn't sound liek something you'd need for your type of driving. Give it a look over and then post in the 4x4 section more of what you'd like, and I'm sure someone will help ya out.

OTT = Over The Top lift...it has a strut plate for the top of the front strut assembly and depending on the driver's use of the vehicle can blow the strut in +/- 10K miles

It sounds like you need a spacer lift. The ones that come recommended by folks (so I've seen here), are the Daystar and the RevTek.

Yeah, that thread is the one that finally put me over the top with confusion LOL.

OK.... OTT is a spacer that goes between the upper strut mount and the body? How is that bad if it just moves the whole assembly down?

Are the Daystar or RevTek OTT?
