 Post subject: HELP!!! My blower motor doesn't work

So about 3 weeks ago I was out mudding and I geuss I had too much fun. My 2002 Sport V6 4x4 began to overheat. So I turn the heat on full blast and let it cool down. That got the temp down to the normal level but it was still fuming (yes I have pics). After it cooled I used some generic radiator stop leak and filled it with water. I limped it home and filled the radiator with tap water (yes I know-bad idea but it was temporary). It continued to spit out water through the resvoir. I had clogged my radiator with mud. I used my air compressor to clean the radiator which got rid of the overheating. But now I have no heat or A/C unless I am going at least 50 mph. My blower fan is not making any noise. I replaced all of the fuses and resistors and checked them twice. Could my heater core be clogged? How would I fix this? If it is the actual blower motor-has anyone replaced this? how hard? how much $? Any help would be great! Thanks

I know you said the resistor, but are you talking about the one in the blower box? Behind the glovebox is the speed control resistor for the blower motor, I had the same problem and this resistor was bad. It is only $15 from the dealer, might waht to try replacing that first.

Are we talking of the fan right behind the radiator? If so, in NYC a stealership serv. dept. wanted to charge me close to $900 for the install of a whole new fan. This was from result of wheeling through some mud/water and I overheated. Seems that it COUL'VE been the relays( high and low) becuase the guys at Paragon( and fellow wheelers) hotwired it and it worked. So stealership was full of it. Although they did say that their electronics gauged the fan was drawing more power than normally necessary. It also had alot of fine grit in the fan components/motor. I can't vouch for that. But...

I had read another post sometime last year where a guy had a similar problem as a lot of us KJ's do regarding this, and all he did was pull the fan apart and cleaned it real well, let it dry and he was back in business. I got mine covered under warranty( after a BIG FIGHT). Would've hated to do all this work on my own with my two left hands.

I didn't know about the resistor in the glove box. I meant to say relay in the underhood fuse panel. I replaced all the relays today and cleaned the underhood fuse panel (it was full of mud go figure). That made no difference. I will try cleaning the fan tomorrow, I noticed it vibrates quiet bad when it spins. If this isn't it could someone please give me more details on the resistor in the glove box? Thanks

The resistor problem is usually when only one speed of the blower does not work (although some have had as many as 3 speeds not working). It is behind the glovebox on top of the heater plenum. 2 screws hold it in place and costs about 15 USD. Here's the part #, 5066552AA.
After reading your first post about this very carefully,it sounds like you might have a "stuck" or "sticking closed" thermostat. Why did you use radiator stop leak? I just replaced the Blower Control Resistor in my '04 Liberty Sport. Only had High speed (4) as 1,2,&3 did not work. There's a nice tut on how to do it at http://www.jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=750&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0.

I called Jeep directly to verify that the part is #5139719AA, which is correct (Btw, I dunno where Valvestem got #5066552AA but that's not the right part). I then went to the dealership, plopped down my $17.49 ($17.00 + tax), went home, and within a matter of minutes I had a working HVAC system again! If you have any Q's feel free to pm me!

This is the fisrt thing you need to do - make sure your fan runs with no problems - the only reason you are overheating because of mud is the fan not spinning. one thing you got to try is to power wash the radiator & fan - from the inside out - air blower is not enough - I bet you have chunks of mud caked into the back of the fan itself & everywhere else - This happens often to us in the midwest - 3 so far during runs and all is because mud caked into the cooling components - quick solution: power wash!! Then if fan is running with no problems, then you got a bigger problem in your hands. First make sure fan works, once you have discarded it as the problem you can move into next thing....

The part number you got from DC is a new number that superceded the part number I had listed. If you had given the dealer the part number I listed, you would have found that out. 8)
