I tried searching and came up with nothing. Can someone tell me where is the gas filter on an 06 sport liberty, and how does one replace it? Thanks in Advance! |

I looked for mine to and found out that the fuel filter and fuel pump assembly are combined together and in the fuel tank and not servicable. Mine is an 05 - 3.7 liter and chances are that yours is the same. HINT - - As with all fuel pumps located in the gas tank they are actually cooled by the gas in the tank so if you continually run to "empty" before you fuel up you are running the pump at a higher temperature than it needs to and thereby unknowingly abusing it which MAY lead to premature failure. The best thing to do is when it gets to 1/4 tank - fill it. Your pump will run cooler and last a loooong time. |

The cooling thing is good to know. i usally always fill up at 1/2 tank. Even when I drove to floida. That is turly a bummer that the filter is part of the fuel pump. Isn't that something one would need to change every x miles? I would think the fuel filter would need to be changed more often than a fuel pump. that is turly a poor design. |

Only from the perspective of the shade-tree mechanic; from DC's point of view, its a profit-maker because owners will have to have the entire assembly replaced meaning more money for them. BTW, why are you looking to replace the filter on an '06? Are you having fuel-delivery problems or just trying to do regular maintenance? |

I swapped to a larger fuel pump on my WRX and it was no big deal. You just removed the rear seat (4 bolts), unbolted a plate on the top of the gas tank and pulled it out. If it is anything like my WRX it's no big deal. But I really don't think I'd even be the slightest bit concerned about replacing the filter unless I have over 60,000 miles or was experiencing a fuel delivery problem. |

When I replaced my fuel filter(02's have them located above the gas tank so you only have to lower it a few inches) the dealership said the filters are supposed to be long-life filters,and for $160 I sure hope so! |

there was a design change somewhere because my o6 doesn't have the filter on the outside top front of the tank like the 02-04's do. anybody no when the change occured? mike |

Yes, just mainteance. I did not know they were long life filters and I do not have a service manuel yet for the 06. And to all the others, no problems with fuel deleivery, just maintenace. |
