I just go my liberty a few months ago and every vehicle I have owned it has always been 10W-30. PPL on here are saying that the manual calls for 5w-30. What happens if u switch the oil weights on your next oil change or does the weight even matter that much on the liberty. Trying to stick with what the manual says to use. Thanks for your time. |

I run 5w30 because that is the PREFERRED weight according to the manual. It gets cold up here in the winter so it's probably best as that is what the people who made the thing recommend. However, the manual also says that 10w30 is ACCEPTABLE. I'd probably run that if I lived in Arizona or some place like that. I'm sure it will be ok but 5w30 might be better at real cold start ups in the winter. I feel more comfortible using what the engineers who built the engine say is preferred. I don't see where switching weights will hurt it. I mean you could run 10w30 in summer and 5w30 in winter or 5w30 year round. Just my opinion as I'm not an engineer. |

I use 10w-30 year around.. Gets down to the single digits and Ive never had a problem with it. I always let it sit at LEAST 1 min before starting out if its cold though..

The lighter weight oils were also called for to help improve fuel mileage. If you run a high quality synthetic 5W-30 you will be fine regardless of what climate you are running in. I wouldn't think twice about blasting across country through any climate running Amsoils 5W-30 oil. Synthetics like Amsoil are engineered to perform at super high temps And super low temps w/out any problems. There are others out there that work ok too, so just make sure you are using a good synthetic and you will be fine. |

synthetics aren't necessary, but they help. just like 5w30 helps the lubrication when the engine is cold (vs. 10w). it depends on how much you want to protect your engine. if you think 10w30 or 10w40 works for you, go for it (just remember you made the call when you hear those noises at 100,000 KM... |
