My fiancee was on her way to the bank and probably totalled our KJ today. Someone pulled out in front of her and she couldnt stop in time and hit pretty much head on at about 50mph. She has a lot of bruises and of course all the usual pains, so we will see what happens. The guy who pulled out infront of her was driving while license suspended and the insurance wasn't in his name. So to say the least it been pretty crazy this morning.

Now for the KJ....

It looks like some one reached thru the grill and pulled the motor out. You could see straight threw to the engine block. The doors still opened but i think it will be totalled by the way the passenger side front was smashed in and possible the frame was bent... I'll add pics monday. I hope its totalled, I dont think it could ever be right again.....

Anyone have any idea's if it could be totalled by the description? I am really considering a lawyer for all the pain and suffering, along with all the other stuff...not sure yet.

Maybe it's time for a '06 libby??? Hmmm....

Ouch! Sorry about your bad luck. Hope your fiancee is feeling better soon.

So sorry to hear such bad news, but glad the girlfriend is okay. The KJ is replaceable, people are not.

It seems like there are wrecks every week or so by people on lost, mostly by so called other drivers that are just not paying attention. I ride a motorcycle and it seems you need eyes in the back of your head and out or you know what, while driving down the road.

Anyway it looks like a new 06 or even a new rubi!!!!!!!

I would say totalled....Mine was totalled and sounds similar to damage in the engine compartment...







Mine hit so hard the frame waswarped and none of the doors would open or shut right and the rear glass would never shut...also the front driver's side suspension was torn out too...

Some kid plastered my mom's Volvo S40. The insurance company didn't want to total it, and we didn't think it was smart to try to fix it. If the insurance company totals it, great. But if they give you a hard time, just get the body shop owner/manager (as high up as you can get) to write them a letter or call them and tell them that HE doesn't feel like it's a good idea either... with all his experience and blah blah blah. Usually they are more than willing to do that... they usually feel the same way you do.

If they still won't listen, just talk to the highest person at the insurance company that you can... he will probably pull some "it will be plenty safe to drive" crap, then ask him why he doesn't buy it from you since it will be so safe... I bet he's not interested . Hope that helps.

I am always amazed how well the passenger compartment holds up in the KJ...the hefty weight and crumple zones are one thing that works in the KJs favor.

Well seeing how she was able to get the door open and walk to the curb in a daze amazes me after a head on collision.We have only had the KJ 2 monthes, and i am grateful. We had a two door honda civic, that would have crumbled and blew away by this impact. We had a bag of potatos in the back seat, all of them where cut in half and all over the place, it shot the cd out of the cd player. I dont want it back though, they could never make it right.


Kjmurphy, mine was missing the whole grille, headlights, everything right down to the engine block, so it gives me hope for it being totalled. Come to find out, the rear driver door was bent in, and the driver door won't shut so who knows.

Now for a question, i have never been in a car accident, we have geico with full coverage, uninsured motors, the whole nine yards......say they total it, do they give me atleast a down payment on another car? I am flat broke and certainly don't have the money for a down payment, and with new credit? This is going to be rough. Also, have you guys had any luck getting settlements? This guy shouldn't have been on the road and should have to pay for this big time, it bothers me to say that but he made this choice......Any suggestions/ comments/ whatever welcome, i already have a number to the family lawyer, I'll be giving him a call on monday.

Good luck getting any money out of him... at least any time soon.

The insurance company usually covers a rental car until they get everything sorted out. They should just cut you a check for the value of the car, which would be a big down payment. They are pretty speedy, at least in my experiences.

Check if you picked up "gap" insurance, it has anorther name but I can't remember right now. In a situation like this, where you will have a greater amount oweing vs. est. value/ insurance payout for your vehicle. This gap insurance will cover the shortfall, usally to a max amt. Would have been signed for at the same time you signed your loan docs. Something to check into.

On another note. I would try my best to sue the flipping pants off this bugger driving. . Too many times people like that get away with this stuff causing the rest of us to pay higher premiums. Really hope this all works out for you.

Glad to hear that she is ok and only has minor bruises. I came close to totaling my 02. I hit a cement barrier on the highway one winter. I to am amazed how well the Liberty's hold up. I was able to drive it away, I think the snow in front of the barrier slowed me down just enough to prevent a lot more damage. I came close to totaling mine also. But it is back together and is good as new. I think if you are within a $1000 or so in damage of the blue book price, they will probaly total it.

As far as suing goes, my mother was hit head on by a drunk. She was lucky enough to walk away. She walked away with some black and blues, burn marks from the air bag, and minor injuries. If I remember right, the moron had a suspened license and was driving someone elses car. She wound up with $18,000 after 2 years of dealing with the lawsuit. In the grand scheme, justice was not served. The guy is still on the road and none of the money came out of his pocket. My personal opinion is ,if everyone walked away and is ok that is the important part. It's not worth going after someone when the end result has no personal impact on the moron who was completely in the wrong. But that is just my opinion. The other reason for high insurance rates is that people think they can sue over anything. I got into an accident when I was kid, got clipped by a guy who sped thru a yellow light while I was making a left. My Wrangler landed on the hood of a car waiting to go the other way. It was defintely partialy my fault along with the guy who hit me. The lady in the waiting car wound up suing me for $500,000. Her husband sued me for $50,000 because she was not able to perform her marital duties. After a few year, she wound up with $8500 and her husband left her over the whole thing. Not really worth it to me.

So sorry about the wreck FLJeep. Seems like everyone is getting hit. I notice its mostly NOT their fault though? Maybe the force of lost is with us?

The way it sounds, you wont have any trouble with it NOT being totaled. Get yourself an 06 libby with ESP and it will be even safer.

Sorry to hear about the accident,glad your wife is okay.I worked at a bodyshop and did alot of estimates,since your KJ is only 4(almost 5)years old it will probally take 70% of the vehicles worth to total it out.Most importantly your wife make it out with very minor injuries and thats always worth alot more than any vehicle!

Hahaha, yea it was totalled out. It had an estimated $14,000 in damage to it, after the impact my legs had gotten thrown into the dash breaking the steering column and that plastic guard underneath the steering wheel...All the trim along the side of the KJ, the balck stuff under the doors, had flown off...it was a mess, plus the water damamges carpet and possibleelectrics because of hte rear glass not being able to shut due to the chassis being warped (at least that's why i think it wouldn't shut)

As far as what the other guy goes, he was driving an old crown vic, that was trashed. And get this, he had five kids in the backseat, and if sarah was just a tic slower that could have gotten really bad, quickly. His family was at the same hospital, and they live 3 houses down. The motor vehicle insurance wasnt in his name, nor was the car. so i dunno.

I love my liberty, but I don't know what i am going to do about another vehicle....I am screwed. What ever money insurance pays us needs to go towards the jeep being paid off. and after that i have no money for another down payment. It gets better and better guys.

I'm sure it varies from state to state, but (as far as I know) in Tennessee if you loan someone your car, you also loan them your insurance. If the car was covered at all, you may be covered.

Your earlier post indicated you have uninsured motorist coverage. Don't forget your fiancee is probably entitled to compensation for pain and suffering. From my experience, you normally will get at least mildly screwed on the property damage compensation from a wreck. The medical side is where you make up the difference. Screwed up, but that seems to be how it works.

Sometimes gap insurance is an option on your loan. It was on mine anyway.

It sucks right now, but don't lose sight of the fact that you could have lost your bride.

Your auto insurance should cover any medical bills and medicine as a result of the accident...they covered mine at least...I MADE A POINT to tell the doc that I was visiting as a result of my car accident so then they would bill my auto insurance...I thought i was developing stress fractures in both my legs as a result of tehm slamming into the dash, but it was just really bad bruises that took like 4 months to heal
