what are they for. cause one of mine is split where it connects to the top of the engine on the drivers side. need to know if this is the reason my KJ wont start right up or if i need to look into the fuel system ie fuel pump or filter. it look slike they go into the engine block is it somekind of pcv valve system? |

Well without a pic of them I'm guessing they are the crankcase breather hoses, they should be conected to the back of each cylinder head and then to the plastic airhorn on the throttlebody. These just vent the crankcase pressure, but if one hose is cracked then unfiltered air is getting into your engine! These lines(if they are the crankcase vent lines)will not prevent your KJ from starting.Hope this helps. |

yeah they have a black plastic thingy in the middle of the hoses and are on each side of the TB. that is them. so i should get it fixed anyways. then i have no idea what it could be it will just crank and crank if i let of and crank it again it will spit and sputter and blow some strong smoke out the tailpipe when it does start up. and dammit it is annoying to have a newer vehical do this. it is under warrenty 5 star warrenty that is remainder of 8yr or 80k. but its the problem of getting it down there |

Have you checked all the fuses and relays(for the fuel system)? I would start there.Sorry have to ask, does it have gas in it? If all the fuses are good check to see if the fuel pump is working, open up the gas cap and listen while someone turns the key to run(do not crank the engine),if it is working you should hear a buzzing sound for 2-3 seconds,if no sound pump may be shot. The worst case could be that hose has been cracked for a long time and so much unfiltered air has gone through that the engine is shot(hope not). These are just some easy checks, hope you get it running soon. |

How many miles are on it? Seems like ALOT of people get a misfire in #5? Could it be water in the gas? You said it started after you filled up? ![]() |

nah it started from day one with 32,700 it now has almost 34,000 but it stalled the first time on saturday night right after i filled up. if i let off and recrank it spits and sputters and fires up. sometimes it does it on cold starts but moslty after it has run a bit then sat for a few minutes. |

checked the fuel filter? could be full of water/garbage and it may be just passing the fuel over the top of this filter once its started and suck some in once is gets restarted. had this problem with many marine engines ive worked on, not sure if it'd be the same with a kj. but has very similar symptoms of the outboards ive worked on. .. Oh and i had the same question with the crank case breathers when i installed a new intake on my 03 limited. pretty inportant lil doo-hickeys. |

Have you tried running some injector cleaner through it? Had a similar prob on my Camaro and a couple of tanks full of good gas with injector cleaner cleared it up. One or more injectors could be clogged. |
