That tree doesn't look very scary, does it? Well it should be. The previous owners of my place decided that that seemed like a good place to plant a tree, even though it leaves no room to get into the carport without scraping in. Well, I'd been doing that for a few weeks until one morning when I'm backing up and I hear a terrible THHWAAAP!! The antenna got caught in the tree. Then snapped back and cracked the windshield.

Is there any hope of this being covered under warranty? Obviously, with the trail rated badge the Liberty should be able to withstand more than that little tree. Also, I’ve never seen another car design where it's possible for the antenna to touch the glass of the car. Anybody think I have a legit claim? To make matters worse, within the week a rock on the highway put another nice gouge in the center of the windshield.

Oh yeah ... the tree's getting dug up tomorrow.

And, anybody have any recommendations for a trail antenna? Just don't tell anyone that I need it for my driveway.

Stupid tree. Man I hope all the tree huggers dont see this post...You will have 5 guys chained to the tree chanting," Tree Killer"

try you home owners insurance if you can not do it on your car insurance. You might ask the dealer but really do not think they will warranty it.

I say...Kill that stupid tree...dont dig it up...put your KJ in low range and run over the glass killing you know what.

Later...Clint

OKay, that was your regular antenna? Freaky that it would crack that window like that. How fast did you run into that tree?

That bites. I had a K10 Blazer kick some rocks up on me while on the 101, put an 8 inch crack in the windshield. This was like 2 weeks after driving the Renny of the dealer lot. Took it back to have the dealer fix some tint issues and asked them to look at the windshield as well. They politely told me to call my auto insurance company. Can't talk to much smack about the dealer though, otherwise they were OK.

How about some "LOST" foam antenna balls? You could call it LOST Protection. Stick that puppy on the end of the antenna - problem solved, or at least averted.

This is pulled from the factory service manual:

So it looks like the antenna on the exports is located at the right quarter-window (from another illustration in the manual). Be nice if they'd do that on the domestic models as well...

you can just unscrew the antenna if you need to if you are ever in a situation like this.

I think you can anyhow, the other day I found my antenna about halfway off, but I never took it all the way off.

Don't run over it.... Hook a tow strap up to it, and yank that sucker out by the roots. Might not be the best way to get the job done, but it's sure to make you feel better

This seems to be a common problem with Chrysler antennas - on my '98 Dakota I would regularly have to tighten the antenna because it would loosen up :?

How much reception would you actually loose if you just took the antenna off or used a shorter antenna from radio shack or something?

Don't bother your dealer with this.. there is no chance they will warranty it. It'll just weakn your arguement for when you have a legitimate claim.

If you have full comprehensive auto insurance, they will get you a new window for the rock that the guy flung up on the road.
