Anyone tried this tire size?

Has anyone tried 235/85R16s?

Do you think they would work better than 265/75s? They have the exact same outer diameter, but are obviously more thin.

Also, the 235/85s say the rim width is 6.5 inches. Will this work on a 7 inch rim? I thought that tire manufacturers usually gave a range of rim widths (ie 6.0-8.0 or something)? The 265/75s say that the rim width is 7.5 inches. Will THESE work on a 7 inch rim?

235/85's and 265/75's will fit on a 7" rim.I run 265/75's in 7" rims and the oem tires that came on my KJ were 235/70's(same width as the 235/85's) with a 7" rim.

The wheels I am looking at are 16x7 with 4 inches of backspacing. By my measurements, that will make the wheels stick out 1.5 inches more than the stock Renegade wheels. With a 235/85R16 tire, that should put the edge of the tire pretty darn close to even with the edge of the fender.

What would be the disadvantages to running 235/85s as opposed to 265/75s?

Just my opinion, but offroad I'd rather have a wider tire crawling over stuff we have out in Az. Of course.... I'd rather have taller, wider tires all around :twisted:

As far as looks, the 235/85 might look a little taller.

Talk to moose. I believe thats the size he went with. He said it was a 32" tire.

Hmm... all of the people that I have ever talked to have said that skinnier tires are not a bad idea. Most of them are Land Rover guys, though...

Skinnier tires would be much better in snow than wider ones, they can dig down to traction better.

http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=16043 has pictures of the Dark Khaki Renegade with Dayton Timberline MT 235/85r16 32" tires. These tires rock! I've had them mudding today, on slickrock last weekend, and rain on pavement this week. All in all, a very nice tire (noise, buy it's an MT, and it's not too bad). You WILL have to trim the bumper and heat gun mold the well liner to be able to drive on the street. Off-road will require a little trimming on the back door well liners and you may want to add a bigger bumpstop in the rear, or get used to the sound of stuffing and watching your flares pop. All in all, I am very happy with them, but I think I will use them to justify some Rock Lizard fron bumpers now :twisted:

About a 1 1/4" less width.

I like the look of moose's tires.I wonder if it rubs with the frankenlift and some minor trimming?

It's really not but I do crawl on rocks and that extra width helps.

That IS with a frankenlift and an extra spring isolator in the rear :shock:

So does it rub at all moose?I also have a frankenlift and I added a puck in the rear which is equivalent to a isolator and am running 245's on 16x8 steel wheels but would like to go up in size but dont want major rubbing.

Which Jonestown, PA are you in (there are ones in 4 different counties when I mapquested it)? I'm going to be driving through on my way to NYC on the weekend of 1/20. You can see for yourself if you'd like. I would classify 32's as major rubbing, unless you are looking at the Rock Lizard bumper too
