Post subject: | Power Steering Problem |
So I've had a problem with my Libby since I bought it a few months ago. When I make slow turns my power steering stops working and it gets really hard to turn the wheel, if I give it a little gas, it works normally, so I'm thinking it's one of two problems. 1-My belt needs to be replaced (even though it looks fine, cheapest and easiest fix) 2-My power steering pump needs to be replaced. If anyone has any idea of what this problem is I would appreciate it. ![]() Cobrastangs |

Eddo says the pump is 80-90 dollars of you do need it. http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... hp?t=15021 If your belt isnt squealing and the powersteering fluid levels are ok it is probably the pump, I would imagine you could go to NAPA or Autozone to buy one. I dont know how hard they are to get to on the gasser but if you have any mechanicals skills at all it could be a DIY project to change it out. Your idle isnt dropping really low when it cuts out is it? |

If you haven't replaced either the belt or the pump before, I'd say replace both just for assurance. |

Thanks for the help, that's probably what I'll do, just replace them both, my idle stays fine (around 1000 rpm's), so it's got to be one of those two. ![]() |

Replacing the belt seems to have taken care of the problem, just in case someone else has this problem.... |
