Post subject:  Turn Signal / Dome Light Problem?

Hi,
I've got a problem with my 20 Liberty Limited, when I move the turn signal stalk to make a turn, the dome lights come on. After I turn, and the signal clicks off the lights go off. Sometimnes the dome lights flicker back on, but if I push the turn signal stalk down a bit they go off again.
Anyone else have this problem?

My dome light in my 02 liberty randomly will light. Usually every few days I'll be driving along and it will flash on. Don't know why, the doors are closed.

seems like i recall reading not too long ago, not sure if it was on here or over on bennett's site that the turn signal stalks were defective on some of the 02's. Might wanna have your dealer look into it if ya still got a warranty on it.

If something is "defective" isn't it covered even if warranty runs out?

Thanks,
Mine does it pretty consistently so I'll get with the dealer to have them check it out. Its pretty annoying though, especially at night. I'll try the two click fix if the dealer wont fix it.

I had this problem three years ago and they replaced the multifunction switch on my steering column stalk. The problem went away.

Does anyone know, if an item such as the turn signal stalk was recalled, would the dealers not be obligated to repair them, even if warranties had expired?? I have a 2002, and am the second owner. I had the issue in the summer, twice, when the dome light would come on then go off. I checked a few sites and forums here about it. Some said it could be the stalk, one other said he had a short and it had melted wires under the hood, almost causing a fire if it had of been left unoticed. I found one forum that a member mentioned about the rear dome light, in the cargo area. He said to press on it by hand, as you can do this to turn it on/off as a secondary light in the rear, that they sometimes get hit and stuck on, or in between on/off causing the domes to turn on/off for no apparent reason. This seemed to be a possiblity in my case, from hauling cargo around, that is high enough to slide and hit the cargo dome light. I pressed the dome on and off a few times, and have not had the lights come on at weird times again.

Was there ever a recall for defective turn signal stalks?

I've thought of changing mine out how difficult was it?

Very easy, just a few bolts and swap it out,20 min max fix.

Guys, was this a recalled item?? How much would the stalk run OEM from the Jeep dealer or would it be wise to check a salvage yard?? I am not touching mine unless the issue happens again. The dome has not mysteriously come on since August, so there may not be a defective stalk in my KJ.
