I know that locking gas caps are all the rage and I don't blame anybody for wanting one, but I would just like to give a few words of advice. First off, DON'T buy a aftermarket gas cap for your KJ or any car with the evap. system. The cheap after market one WILL not seal right and your check engine light will come on. Second I check w/ my parts dept. last week and there are aprox. 2500 on back order so I would go and get your name on a list for the MOPAR one. We have spent alot of wasted time and money on customers that bring thier cars in w/ the light on only to find out the 7 dollar gas cap they bought at NAPA just cost them 50 to 60 bucks in diagnoics to tell them they bought junk for thier car. Just something to ponder in this time of grossly overpriced gas.

So you are saying that the gas cap that some of us bought from jparts that is specified for the KJ may not seal right?? But jparts is a diamler-chrysler dealer right??

Just wondering if I just wasted 16.00.

I have a $20 one that I put on from Napa. No problems at all. Put it on one week ago and the CEL hasn't popped up once. That was one of my main concerns with aftermarket caps, so i've been keeping a close eye on it..

For the reccord, they're about $20 at Napa, and roughly $11-12 at Autistic Zone. Don't know why the price difference is so drastic, but personally, I like my napa one versus my neighbors Autozone one better.

The name of the one I got from Napa ia Balkamp, which i've heard of before. Can't remember the autozone ones, but they run either 10.99 or 11.99 + tax. The napa one was $20. Coulda waited till autozone got more in stock for the KJ, but I didn't wanna take the chance (had heard many many reports that day of people siphoning gas).

Its actually only a few varations of caps, that fit several different vehicles. For example, my nextdoor neighbor has a Honda Passport and a ZJ, and the EXACT same cap fits both (same part numbers), and it also fits my KJ, but like i said at the time they were not in stock.

Mopar locking gas caps are standard on most KJ's over here.

Mine got pinched last week (the thieves drilled out the locking mechanism) and they siphoned my tank dry.

I went to the dealer yesterday to arrange a replacement. They wanted $161 for the cap and $60 to have it re-coded to my ignition key!

Luckily, I have a good rapport with the service manager and he sorted it for me.

Just Empty Every Pocket!

Isn't there a anti-siphoning mechanizm in the filler necks, so you can't get your tank siphoned?

Only in recent (2004+?) models

SUPER FAST Service!

Got the cap on with NO problems and NO Check Engine Light!

The most important thing to look at concerning caps is the THREAD! Make SURE it matches your OEM Gas Cap!!! 8)

I believe the anti-siphon device is in all year models of the Liberty - I know my '03 has one. As for the aftermarket gas caps, I purchased a Stant model two months ago and have had no problems at all (other than remembering the key when I get out to fill up)
