What does the oil manufacturer recommend? I'd go with that, or have it tested if you want to wait longer. Now let the salesmen chime in!

If you ever have engine troubles, I would say 3k would be best for warranty.

5k would be ok too, but may have troubles with warranty if the engine doesnt last.

If you can afford it - every 3K miles. But a synthetic oil doesn't break down as fast as dino based stuff so if you need to go a little longer, it's OK. www.bobtheoilguy.com <-Good information

I run synthetic in my wifes car because she forgets to tell me when it's time to change the oil..

I run synthetic in the Jeep because it keeps my motor a little less noisy.

I change mine every 5000 miles, everyone has an opinion but thats what I do , but then if you are in town and do a lot of stop and go or out on dusty roads I would do more often. I have changed mine that way in the last 5 vehicles and all went up into the 180,000/200,000, when they went to another owner. I had one Chevy pickup with a 350 that I would change every 10,000 with just a filter change and refill at 5,000, that truck now has over 283,000 on it and never any motor problems.

That right there is really a key point on what interval you need to use. Good stuff

You can also just spin a new filter on at 3,000 miles and top off the oil level...then change both at 6,000 miles. The better the synthetic, the longer you can possibly go. Maybe even two oil filter replacements and go a total of 9,000 miles.

There's no modern engine that needs the oil changed every 3,000 miles, thats old school thinking. I own 2 fords and 1 jeep and they all recomend 5,000 mile oil changes. Some grades of mobil 1 claim 15,000 miles. The oil may last 15,000 miles, but I dout the filter will. I use mobil 1 truck and suv, and royal purple in the rest of the drivetrain. I still change the engine oil at 5,000 miles and throw on a new motorcraft filter add outlaw to the fuel tank, it works out great. I get the 5 quart jug of mobil 1 at walmart for like 22.00 bucks, 5.00 for the MC filter and 3 something for the outlaw. So I have about 30 couple in an oil change, I don't think thats to bad, so I do it at the 5,000 mile mark. I'm sure the oil will last longer, but I like to change it and it really isn't that expensive. I would say, it's whatever your comfortable with, no sense in driving around nerves.

I've used Amsoil for years, it was always 1 year or 25,000 miles of the oil in my Blazer, change filter at 6 months and top off. The rig's over 200,000 and still going strong. On the CRD I go by DC suggestions as noted on the Amsoil site.

I use Mobil 1 and I also change mine at 5000 mile intervals along with changing the Pure 1 filter. I throw a can of Seafoam in every 3000 miles and at 34,000 miles it runs like a top. The Mobil 1 seems to make the engine a little quieter and even though I could run longer mileage on it I find there is discoloration or darkening of the oil at 5000 miles. A $30.00 oil change is a lot cheaper than replacing an engine.
