For those of you who have the Mopar Tail Lamp Guards, how have you been able to secure these on as the double-sided tape adhesive sucks?

Has anybody used silicone to secure them?

I've had mine on with the double sided tape for over 2 years now. did you clean the lens surface properly before applying the tape? Never used silicon though.

x2 what Jeep4me99 said but since you tape isn't working, head to Lowes or any other hardware store and get some 3m dbl-sided foam or rubber tape. will work very well.

Make sure you clean the surfaces very well and if the tape comes with a reactant to make it stick better, use it.

I haven't had a problem with mine either. I had one meet a tree and it's still attached even though it's busted in half.

Thanks guys.

I see that some of the newer model KJ's (I think 06+) have a more secure epoxy and more robust tail light guard that is rock solid that does not use the same crappy foam tape I have.

Maybe because these are from the factory installed vs after delivery add on.

go to an auto parts store or auto body shop and ask if you could get some 3m tape, never had a problem with that stuff as long as it goes on a clean surface and after you strip off the old stuff.

i dont think they are crap. my taillight gaurds came with a rubbing alcohol pad in the box. i cleaned em and stuck em on and they wont come off without breaking the plastic pretty much.

the new 05-06 renegades with the "epoxied" taillamp guards come from the factory like that. if you want those guards, you gotta buy the whole taillight. i wanted those at first until i found out i had to buy the whole light. but im very happy with mine.

Did u just install them once?

Mine was loose after a year so I figure I would take it off, remove the tape and silicone them on... perhaps I needed more alcohol...

how much was the entire light assemby? These covers weren't that cheap for plastic either so for the money I regret not getting the Manik metal ones.. :(

i got em for christmas this year. i cleaned the taillight real good with the alcohol before i stuck em on. i only put em on once and they arent loose yet. worse comes to worse, take all the old tape off, cut some thin strips of AUTOMOTIVE grade 3M tape, and re stick em on. iwouldnt use silicone to put em on, its not an adhesive, i bet they would fall right off if they get bumped the littlest bit, or if your on the highway the wind would take em off ,or at the pressure washer would rip em off

Post subject:  Thx

Thanks for the advice everybody. I think I pressure washed too hard the original install...

I guess it is 3M tape from the autoshop then....

I wasn't saying the glue is cr@p. Mine are still on. What I meant was that when I ordered them I expected metal guards that would actually protect the taillights, not thin strips of plastic that stick to the taillights and serve to grab every bush I graze!
