There aren't any ball joints in the back end... only bushing and if they are stock rubber - they'll just bend and deflect out of the way... no damage done.

Man, Rock Lizard sure does give us SFA envy . By the way there is a balljoint in the rear end,it's on top of the rear diff attaching it to the rear tri-link.

That I didn't know... I'll have to crawl under there and take a look when it warms up outside.

Is it mounted on the pumpkin or on the body? I always knew of the 3 link (sort of a 3 link) setup but I guess I never really looked at it while I was checking the gear lube or looking at my drums.

The joint itself is mounted to the tri-link.The part that excepts the balljoint is a bracket that bolts to the diff. When you go to install your rear springs or spacers it's easier to seperate it ,so the diff. will drop for more clearance. That part is'nt too bad,but when you go to put the joint back together after adding 2.5 to 3 inches,it can be a real PITA.You have to put a floor jack under center of diff.,and raise the full weight of the vehicle, then stick a prybar in the tri-link and pull it the rest of the way down to get the balljoint into the bracket.Makes me tired just talking about it.

Sounds horrible! Maybe some duct tape will work better.
