As long as you keep the right cap on the valve stem, they will be just fine. If you drive around with the caps off, then yes, they would probably fail.
They dont seem to be very fragile at all. ive taken mine out before to see what they look like.
Yes, they are very expensive. I called a lock dealer and if I remember correctly, they were $60 a piece..
Mine have said "Check Tire sensor" before.. All I had to do was retrain them.
