I recently read in a local repair shop in the state where I live (Maine), that if the TPM is showing check tires at a state required yearly safety inspection, and it can not be remedied by tire inflation, that the sensor has to be replaced. The repair shop stated that these sensors, some only available at the dealers, are very expensive and delicate. And that they will order and install them if requested, but will not take responsibility because of their fragility. Apparently corrosion is the enemy in the salt belt states of these sensors. They mentioned too that the replacements are quite expensive. I luckily do not have the sensors on my Liberty, and am grateful for that. Maybe somone else has some input as to their experience with these sensors.

As long as you keep the right cap on the valve stem, they will be just fine. If you drive around with the caps off, then yes, they would probably fail.

They dont seem to be very fragile at all. ive taken mine out before to see what they look like.

Yes, they are very expensive. I called a lock dealer and if I remember correctly, they were $60 a piece..

Mine have said "Check Tire sensor" before.. All I had to do was retrain them.

Since you have the 2005 liberty, you cannot retrain them. They are supposed to retrain themselves, and I have no clue how they do that.

On my 2004, I have a magnet that I go around in a certain order and place it on the valve stem. When the horn honks, I move on to the next tire until all of the tires are done.

I have had one of mine ocassionally quit reporting for between an hour and 24 hours. Just be patient if one goes on vacation for a while.
