soo.. im sure this has been posted before but i thought i'd do it anyway. after beating down the pinch weld.. and rust proofing everything down there with undercoat.. i cut a large triangle out of the finder well.. heated it and pushed it down flat.. then melted it back together with a hot screw driver... and finally drilled and screwed it to the now flattened pinch weld. looks nice *in my opinon.. and the best rust proofing by keeping it covered (living in PA .. there is a ton of salt in the winter)..

thats the best looking one Ive seen. Where did you cut the triangle from?

Also, looks like you still have the stock tires. Why did you need to beat it over? :?

Thank you. It is nice to see a mod I made, get improved upon.

the reason for beating was spidertrax wheel spacers (to make room for 265/75/16's after a frank. lift).. and on the uncut inner fender well there is a box type plastic shell over the pinch weld. I hacked the triangle out from the side of that shell *that covers the pinch weld*

That does look very clean. Nice work.

For those doing this modification...
How many leave the wheels and tires on (just turned out of the way)? How many take them off and prop the jeep up on some stands?

I've heard arguments for both, but I don't know about having the vehicle up on stands pounding it with a sledge.

If you still had 3 wheels on the ground, and only that side on the jack stand then it should be ok. :)

Is there details on this procedure somewhere? I can not seem to find it with the search tools.

In the Fabrication section.

I do like the screw idea.

Overall, you can not really see the area very well unless the wheel is turned all the way in on that wheel well.

There isn't a problem hammering the pinch weld while one wheel is on a jack stand AND you keep the floor jack there also. Set your E-brake, place some wheel chocks and you are good to go.

wow.. that is a good post in the fab. section. I didnt see that before i did mine... the only thing i did different was took the fender liner out. I also only cut one side.. hahaha i noticed you specified HEAVY leather gloves.. that is very true. I used some leather ones at first (pushing down the heated plastic) and it got pretty warm. So i just used welding gloves and they worked great! Just a warning... when your heating the plastic and it starts to get real shinny.. STOP! that's right before the melting point.. and the perfect time to mold it to how you want... then cool it with a damp rag and hold pressure on it for a min.. and it should work perfect!

Bump for those who may benefit from this thread.

I put mine up on jack stands when I did them, not enough room to get a really good swing with the wheels just turned.
